Last Q's guys
3/5 = 3 x 1/5 = 3 x answer required=
Is the answer 1/3 = 3.
Manilla says that 1/9 of 350m is 38.89 m rounded to the nearest centimetre.
Show manilla is correct.
So 1/9 = 0.11 x 350 38.5 x 100 is 3850 centimetresGirlie Girl0 -

Show manilla is correct.
So 1/9 = 0.11 x 350 38.5 x 100 is 3850 centimetres
350 x 1/9 =
350 divided by nine (38.89) multiplied by 1=38.89 =
350 / 9 = 38.89
3/5 = 3 x 1/5 = 3 x 0.2 (= 0.6)Not even wrong0 -

Not sure what you mean by this - is it written like this?
Manilla says that 1/9 of 350m is 38.89 m rounded to the nearest centimetre.
Show manilla is correct.
So 1/9 = 0.11 x 350 38.5 x 100 is 3850 centimetres
Almost there but you're over complicating things! Don't make an extra calculation (and margin for error) by working out the 1/9 first. The answer is in metres, so don't convert to cm.Save0 -

I get that 1.8/1.5 = 1.2 so that's 1/5 more than the original price, so it's 6/5
So 1.5 X 1.2 = 1.80 which is the new price. But I need to be able to show it to an 11 year how to covert the decimals into the fraction of 6/5.
I get 200000 / 150000 = 1.33 so that makes it 1/3 more than the whole which is
So it's 4/3 but when you multiply 150000 by 1.33 you don't get 200000.
How do I show the fraction be 1/3 added to the 1 aka whole.
Sorry I know I sound stupid but 1.33 would be 33/100 but you can't simply 100 by 33 to make it 1/3.
Or do you just ignore the fact for numbers like 0.33 or do I use an approximation.
This is your problem - don't go through decimals. Put the digital calculator away and do mental arithmetic.
200000 / 150000 = 20/15 (just divide by 10000)
20/15 = 4/3 (divide top and bottom by 5 as both numbers are in the 5 times table)
180/150 = 18/15 (I find it easier to think in whole numbers so am using pennies)
18 and 15 are both multiples of what number? So divide by 3.But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Sounds as though the nephew needs to learn how to cancel down fractions, as explained above ^^
And as others have said, don't start bringing decimals into a fraction based equation. They are generally designed for easy calculation (so numbers tend to look odd but cancel easily, e.g. 49 x 1/7) and introducing decimals creates possible errors due to rounding.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Also do you have any suggestions on how to make it simpler?
You're over complicating by trying to convert fractions into decimals and back again, and as you can see it created innacuracies.Save

Yes that makes so much more sense.
That's so much more simpler than how his text book explains things.
Feel really stupid.Girlie Girl0 -
