Kitchen refurb quote (HIGH!!)

My kitchen is 4m x 4m and needs TLC, some sprucing up and jus a bit of attention.

Had a company round today to quote on:

9 new cupboard doors and handles
New work tops - 4m worth
New sink + taps
+ 1 new base unit 1000mm wide with door

Quoted just under £4000!!!!

This is for standard doors, entry level work top.

Stunned tbh and a bit pee'd off as I think that's way over the top

"You obviously don't want the work. Thank you for taking the time to quote. Goodbye."

Did they give a breakdown of labour and materials? A quick look at a Wickes or Ikea or Howden catalogue will reveal they are taking the ****, even given a generous labour rate and element of profit.

Ouch!! We paid £2400 for a brand new kitchen from Ikea (with their gloss grey doors) with a kitchen island as well. You'd be better off looking on rated people for a handyman IMO.

Company that came was called Kitchen Magic

    http://www.kitchen-magic.com

Got another firm rated 9.9/10 on CheckATrade

    Willing to pay up to £2k for;

    New doors and handles
    1x new base unit
    New work top and sink
    Cooker hood

    I may also ask about:

    - new tiles above work top - maybe I could tackle this myself?

Do you know where the original kitchen came from? If not, do you have a picture?

I'd be inclined to replace the kitchen with that budget.

No idea where it came from unfortunately. The previous owners must have put it in.

I don't think I could get a whole new kitchen and have it installed for £2k. I think it would cost at least triple that...

Do you have a picture? If you're lucky, some of us might recognise it and you could save quite a bit of money.
