Having worked for a pharmaceutical company I learnt that when companies launch a new drug they have a licence which lasts for 10 years. During that time an identical drug cannot be launched by another company. That gives them 10 years to recoup all monies spent on research and development... hence the high prices.
It also gives other drug companies time to break down and identify the ingredients and quantities.
At exactly 10 years, to the minute, that the licence expires there will be a flood of exact copies launched at drastically reduced prices.
So always ask for the generic
If you're shelf shopping just check the ingredients listed on the packs

You should have seen the mayhem when Pfizers licence for Viagra ended!!!

As this is my first post I apologise if I'm trying to teach my Grandmother to suck eggs :D
Not quite the same thing applies to foodstuffs, as there will be taste variations according to where the ingredients are sourced, varying proportions used, cooking times etc.

We're here to work out what's the same from the production line / our own tastebuds!

Thank you, it's interesting to know that Muller make Aldi yogurts, and that they don't contain gelatin, however although they would be suitable for vegetarians, I'm afraid they wouldn't be suitable for vegans, who don't eat anything containing cows milk ;)

So why do they put gelatin in their own yoghurt? Not every veggie or vegan lives near an Aldi or relies on public transport which doesn't go near one. So have to rely on when other veggie friendly yoghurts go on offer?

They will get more sales if they ditch the gelatin
  • Years ago I worked quite high up in the Sales Department for R. White's. I can definitely confirm that Tesco's own label lemonade was definitely made identical to and produced at the same factory as R. WHite's at a fraction of the price.

I was just wondering how long ago?

I used to only drink R-Whites (those who drink a lot of lemonade or diet lemonade as I used to will know there is a difference in taste).
I used to try switching brands to find which cheaper brands would be the same so I could switch and save money or know what to buy if there was a shortage (yes I would describe that as an addiction  )

I remember that RWhites would be the most similar, but in a blind taste I could always pick it out and it was not identical. Are you sure they didn't add other things as it didn't taste the same when I used to drink it. At least not for the diet version anyway.

It'd add as a thickening agent I'd imagine.

Other brands can do yoghurts without gelatine - Danone for one

As far as I can see, ASDA own brand vegetarian burgers are the same as Linda McCartney ones. That includes the 1/4lb 'beef style' burgers.
