i have some in Santander and Nationwide current accounts...and some spread around Building Societies.
Cash Savings are not very productive at all nowadays...i am getting as much into Equities and Property as i reasonably can.

Of course I have savings in UK banks. Anyone with some sense would have at least have an emergency pot of readily accessible cash. It's also quite easy to find accounts that pay between 3% and 5% for instant access on up to £44K, plus regular savers with 4% and 6% rates, for a total of £950 a month.

The money is also totally safe because of the FSCS guarantee, regardless of what RT says.

The OP seems to be confused between savings and investments, and also ignores the BoE rate as well as the current inflation rates.

The best return Halifax do is something like 3700%; being £75 gross pa on an average balance of around £2 achieved with an almost empty Reward current account.
Where does the £75 come from, surely it's £60?

In any case, anything approaching 3700% must make us the savers equivalent of Wonga. Which is nice :D :T.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
    :) Mortgage Balance = £0 :)

You get paid £60, which is £75 minus the standard 20% tax withheld.

They don't always appreciate over time and can be difficult to sell in a hurry other than at knock down prices

This would all depend on the nature of the asset. Obviously this would apply to something like gold. However, I was thinking of something more esoteric. For example check out: http://www.zavvi.com/offers/steelbooks.list

    <quoting from the Zavvi blurb>

"Hugely collectable and exquisitely designed, getting a Steelbook edition
Blu-ray is an opportunity any true film lover would be mad to miss out on."

These represent an excellent investment opportunity. They always appreciate and can always be sold immediately via Ebay/Amazon. These are true limited edition collectables which always shoot up in price when Zavvi sells out out of their limited print run. Then, you can only find these for sale on Ebay/Amazon. And the price increases with rarity.

You could spend £5k on disks today. Wait a year and they'd be worth £15K easy.

But probably not much use in a world of financial armageddon and world order collapse as you painted earlier.

True true if complete collapse. But then again this would be the least of your worries. What with all the gangs of people roaming the streets (and breaking into houses) fighting over the last few tins of tuna fish :o

I only have a limited amount of money :)

When the average savings is under £2k then most people wouldn't need more than 2 tsb accounts.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
