It needs more careful reading in the latter part, as there is much discussion of the Black fight for equality and resistance it met in the south.

The privately educated kids I saw gathered in bunches on street corners were in high spirits, and the word "retard" was bandied about like nobody's business amongst each other. Their parents must be so proud.
I walked past a group of schoolkids today and one called the other one a gay c-word. I almost said "Mind your language" to him.0 -

I've finished this book now, was an ok read but I found it a bit slow. The story jumps from the present to the past, the past story is set in WW2, it is a love story with a few very tragic twists.
Up next is a crime thriller I got in the works 8 for £10.00 deal.0 -

To also tie in with that, I thoroughly recommend William Styron's The Confessions of Nat Turner.
This is an engrossing and controversial first person account of the 1831 slave revolt in Virginia, about to be released under the title The Birth of a Nation. I'm a great Styron fan and also love Sophie's Choice which many people will know from the Meryl Streep film.
That went down like the proverbial lead balloon with my book group which I think is a different kind of recommendation.:rotfl:0 -

Fiction-wise I'm stuck on this one:
I love the author, but I'm struggling with how horrible the narrator is to her own sister, even as an adult. I'm not sure I'm going to get very far with itValue-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Hello bookworms :hello:
Just thought I'd share this website:
The Book Guide
It's a guide to sources of secondhand and antiquarian books in the UK.
Bookshops, book fairs and auctions.
You might find a great secondhand bookshop near you that you didn't know existed like I did :T0 -
Have just finished "I let You Go" by Claire Mackintosh.
Good paced, well thought out, not sure i would call it a thriller in the true sense. But kept me reading.
The writing style took some getting used to, but overall, pretty goodNever put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow..

I've just finished the girl on the train by Paula Hawkins well it was a bit of a disturbing read. I wanted to know what all the hype was all about regarding the latest film on the book. I would suggest that someone who has depression not read this as it is depressing. Didn't take me long to read, just under 6 days.0
