Las Vegas unlike nearly every other holiday destination you may have visited. In Vegas the hotels ARE the attractions. Most have a huge casino attached, but if you think that's all there is to the place, you are sorely mistaken! Each hotel is very different, with its own theme and attractions.

The good news is, is that Vegas can be a friend for us Money Saving Experts, with lots of free attractions, cheap eats/drinks and value for money to be had.

This page cannot hope to cover everything, but should point you towards some good money saving tips. All information at the start of this thread is put together by members of the forum and is accurate at the time of writing - we will update it when we can.

After reading the 'information' posts at the start of this thread, feel free to ask a question and join the discussion! We have lots of Vegas regulars contributing to this thread - join the gang!

Cheaper than CostCo? We stock up there! Although it's a bit of a trek, we go to both CostCo (Spirits + gas) & Target (mixers + snacks/breakfasts) in one trip!

You can use any worldwide Costco. They have recently joined the 21st century allowing payment by credit card, Amex in the UK I believe.

We used to visit the Henderson location when we had a car. Now it's on a bus route, it's so worth a visit. We stay in Vegas for a long time and don't always want to go out in the evening. This place is fab for stocking up the room.

We are not big drinkers but like a few beers on our trips and the selection at Total Wine is far more inspiring than the offerings on the strip. Saying that I will happily spend a few hours in the stage door bar drinking their cheap beer.

Right, after a great week in Seattle it's time to head down to Vegas today. Got Penn & Teller tickets for tonight but nothing booked for the rest of the week, going to play it by ear a little.

Mind you having seen the high temperatures forecasted for this week I'm going to be staying inside most of the time!

The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

    Hello All
Apologies in advance for any stupidity & complete nonsensical waffling of this post
Have been to the States quite a few times, mainly NY & been there 6 times in the last 4 years, the last time being in Nov. A few days ago i thought it was time to plan another trip & i normally end up looking at the best prices for my 2 NY go to hotels & book - job done. But this time i thought maybe i should try somewhere new, i started thinking where & numerous countries came to mind - Belgium, Holland, Italy, Sweden, Canada & of course the US, originally thinking of going in Sept. When i was in NY last i happened to be there when the UFC had it's first event & managed to get tix and it was an amazing event & something i thought i would do again at some point, well i know that they tend to have an event in Vegas at the end of Dec, so i thought why not - so there it was, a plan - Vegas in Dec/Jan

Started browsing around on Tripadvisor, Boooking.com etc & was pleased to find a thread here on MSE - have read the whole of the 2017 thread & it has been very helpful & insightful.

I am thinking of going for at least 21 nights which at the moment are from the 18th Dec to the 8th Jan, i know from checking out various sites that the 30th & 31st Dec are expensive nights but on the whole the prices for the full stay kinda even that out.
Yesterday i was on Booking.com & i think they were having a day of discounts & i saw Tuscany Suites offered at what seemed an excellent price of 1500 or $2000 for 22 nights with free cancellation, so i ended up booking this as it seemed to have some good reviews, though some people complained about it being a 10 min walk to the strip.

Obviously i shall be looking around incase i can find some better offers & take on all suggestions as i have no idea as to what is the best way to do Vegas.

In fact after seeing the above post about Expedia's flights & hotels
    i did a quick search & found:
    Tropicana 1531
    Downtown Grand 1703
Tuscany Suites 1869 (Already better than what i have booked)
    W 2086
    Tahiti 2159

Haven't checked further to see if there are extra's for flights etc as never booked flight & hotels together before.

As for rooms, not too fussed about much but it would be nice if it had a coffee machine which i've read alot of places don't seem to have for some reason & a fridge

I'm going to stop there but i'm sure i'll have more to come

Tuscany have an under counter fridge, coffee maker, microwave on request, small dining table, and sink. There is a desk for your computer, sofa and chair with coffee table. Opposite the sofa is the bed or beds.

Bathroom has a separate shower, shallow tub, toilet with a door and a single sink on a decent sized counter.

We have stayed there many times and think it's fine for the money.

    Enjoy your trip.

The Tropicana although at the southern end of the strip is also a decent hotel plus will save a few 000

So Tuscany 1839 or Tropicana 1531, I would go for the Tropicana only to save money. Remember the resort fees on top which will be $24 or $29 a night respectively.

Before booking I would check that the event is definitely on. Also note as Dec/Jan are the coolest months of the year most of the hotels which close their pools for the winter month.

The man benefit of booking hotels separately is that you have the option to cancel and book a better deal somewhere else whereas with an OLTA once the package is booked changes are more difficult in my experience.

    Good luck with your plans.

I would be surprised if the event wasn't on, the UFC have held an event on or around the 31st for at least the past 7 years at either the MGM Grand or the newly opened T-Mobile.

Not too fussed about pool access & would presume most if not all would be closed, obviously it'll be a good excuse to go back again at a different time of the year

I did notice on Expedia that the flight + hotel options were non-refundable and non transferable so i better be sure before choosing that option

Got back on Friday from a fantastic 11 night trip. I will try to write a report at some point, but have 2 questions hopefully someone might be able to answer.
    1. Grand Canyon Experience Store outside of MGM has closed. Acknowledging that Adidas is shut for renovation, just wondering if there are plans for that area.
    2. TC flight home on Thursday 18th had issues with the slide on 1 of the doors, so 40 voluteers were requested to step off the plane and stay an extra night. We needed to be home, so did not ask the details, but now curious if anyone knows what the offer details would have been.
