:hello: Welcome to all newbies and returners. If anyone's worried about this not being a good time of year to join in, look upon it as a trial run for next year!
I can't believe we're in December - where has this year gone?
Friday spends of £20.30 at the market and fish shop, plus a "payback" to DH for this weekend's shellfish. A few items needed tomorrow from the sm and hopefully that will be it for this week. Dinner plan done:
Su - Beef stew (made in sc yesterday), cabbage, mash, Yorkies
M - ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ but with dumplings instead of Yorkies
Tu - Turkey stir fry, noodles
W - Fish pie (potato topping), peas, sweetcorn
Th - Bacon chops, egg, chips
I've gone for fairly quick and easy meals this week as I need to get a wriggle on with all the Crimbo stuff. I'm more or less organised but really would like to have everything sorted over the next couple of weeks.
Breakfasts will be the usual cereal, porridge, toast + something on top and there's plenty of stuff in the freezer and cupboards I can use for lunches and puddings if we want or need them, so still on course for emptying one freezer drawer for Xmas goodies. :)Be kind to others and to yourself too.0 -
It's hard to believe it's the last month of 2017 already! :xmastree:
I've looked back through our December budgets from years gone by & we're going to set our budget at £600 for 1-31 December. This is for all food, drinks & pet food for the 4 of us, our cat and 2 dogs.
I've gone with a significant increase to our 'average' budget as we have several meals/days with guests who will be eating/drinking with us. Nothing tremendously fancy, just lots of celebrations. December brings: my birthday, possible family meals on Dec 23rd and Christmas eve, us hosting Christmas day & Boxing day plus several other friends popping round for nibbles, catch ups, brunch etc. :rudolf:0 -
It's not your weakness - it's because cheese is highly addictive, it contains a protein called Casein, which is produced to bond the calf to the mother. If your interested, Google is Casein Addictive, it will give you the facts. #JustThoughtYouMightBeInterested
Thanks, read about this a while ago...I am probably am addicted to cheese but I manage to only eat it a few times a week until December0 -
Totally forgot that I bought a carton of seedy bread mix at IKEA on Saturday. That's another €2.95. That takes me up to €30.22 / €350.
Things to buy this week:- eggs
- toilet paper
- olive oil
- paper towels, maybe (aka kitchen roll)
We'll be eating down the fridge this week before going away.0 -
Evening folks and a warm welcome to the new peoples, returners and regulars :hello:
Thank you for running the thread Zippy and Coxy
Sorry I'm late to the gate this month, but just back from my holibobs in Valencia I'll get all my signature updated tomorrow.
We would like to go for our usual budget so £200 for December. This is for DH and myself and covers all our food, cleaning, laundry and general toiletries. Drink and entertainment have their own budgets.
Hope you all have a great month and good luck with the challenge

Genuine question to everybody else declaring less than £300/ month, how do you do it?£120 - General groceries (Supermarket, farm shop, market stalls)This is for household spending. DH and I have separate money for our own spending, as well as a "date night fund", which may pay for the odd takeaway. Usually, there's just the two of us but we often have family/friends staying, sometimes for weeks at a time.
£ 40 - Meat Fund (we use a specialist butcher for most meat)
£ 40 - Bulk Fund (for stocking up at Costco, Wing Yip or on a great deal at the supermarket)
£ 10 - Christmas (this buys the turkey/goose* (if we can get one), Christmas pudding, etc)
£ 10 - Garden Fund (for seeds, compost, etc)
The big things with us that save us money are:-- we cook virtually everything from scratch
- Use - and abuse - the freezer for leftovers, ys items, etc
- Unless we have a really good reason not to, we normally just buy the value label. There are a couple of items for which we will pay a premium (for instance I won't purchase peanut butter containing palm oil)
- Portion control. This applies to things like washing up liquid, shampoo and washing powder as well as food, e.g. I decant washing up liquid into pump-topped bottles - two squirts per sink full.
- We take our lunches to work virtually every day. I also take in instant coffee because my employer just supplies boiling water and a machine that dispenses something that is "almost but not quite unlike tea" (to quote Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy). They sell fancy coffees downstairs but I'd be spending close to £20 a week if I didn't bring my own.
*I can't get a goose this year from my butcher. I've ordered my turkey but don't know what it'll cost until we collect it. The last time I bought a turkey from them, it cost £70. It was 8kg and had fat on it, so well worth the cost."Be the type of woman that when you get out of bed in the morning, the devil says 'Oh crap. She's up.' "

Never mind even if I am not on list I will still aim for target.
I've made it big and bold for you... for future, copy and paste this but replace the round brackets with square

Thank you very much elsiepac.
First spend of the month. £25 from village shop. Shopping like this is expensive but have been very poorly and just popped in on my way back from doctor. Hopefully once the steroids start to work I will be on the mend again.0
