Notice period - employer wont pay

I have been made redundant this week with immediate effect.
Longstanding employee of over 20 years but without a written contract of employment.
I have been given a figure for statutory redundancy. I have asked about a notice period of 12 weeks and been told they are not paying it?
I have read the employment law that I am entitled to 12 weeks statutory paid notice, is this correct please? Has my employer any right not to pay this?

That's correct and no they don't.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0

Thank you.
I thought that was the case but when my employer tells me otherwise you start to question yourself.0
