  • I retired this year at 56 (reduced pension) and after a lot of thought went for the smaller lump sum and higher anual pension. In my case (not sure about you) my wife still gets half of my unreduced pension based on the large anual pension even if I had chosen a small anual pension and larger lump sum.

    I would go for smaller lump sum, higher pension and between now and retirment stuff a PP/sipp or avc with as mucha s you can- this will give you more lump sum for then or later
