    It's new one on me too. Cats like to sleep on the canvas roof of my Land Rover but I've never seen any damage.

    What exactly are they scratching?

    Have you tried coins in a can? Shake it loudly as close to them as you can when their on the car.

    A cat of mine wasn't fussed about water but hated the coins in a can noise.

    I have a lot o photos and movies with this cat in main role. I put CCTV to find out why I keep finding new scratches on my cars and after a week mystery solve.

    Cats DO scratch cars ;
    We had car in car port, neighbourhood cats like to either sit on bonnet when warm, car roof or jump from car into rafters of car port.
    It's when they leap back down from rafters that claws go into paintwork and even windscreen glass.

    Agree water spray, car cover, cat repellent or in our case convert car port into sealed garage.

    When they jump in to the car or try to jump off they do and that is a fact.

    Water, coins or repelent is is only temporary solution. I want to find somebody who solve the problem legally. Small claims court or through solicitor?

    You honestly expect a cat to take notice of a solicitor's letter?

    If they can prove which cat it was and they know who owns said moggie I suppose they could try billing the owners for damages.. Won't do much for neighbourly relations though
