Today's growing bargains!

Big expenditure in Morrison's this morning:
Two indoor plants:-
one looks like a small aspidistra with creamy spathe flowers- badly drooping ... 5 pence- looks pretty healthy after a good soak
Other is an indoor fern- may survive- also 5 pence

Outdoor shrub: sad looking bare stem (ha, but I can see little buds lurking) was £2- honeyberry morena fruit plant- Lonicera caerulea now all of 10 pence

Don't think I was robbed!!
Chance of some yummy berries in the summer from my sad little twiggy shrub- hope so :D

It is always worth checking out the plants in Morrisons, they are often very good, especially for a supermarket. We do have one near us but I don't go very often as it is the furthest away from me.

Actually Morrison's is the closest to me but it's not my favourite- both cramped and crowded so I rarely go in there, however might make a detour more often!! (and generally Aldi has better prices!)

I'm a Sainsburys man, but I'll admit that sometimes I deviate via Morrisons to see what they have, plant-wise. :o

Trouble is, the closest I can get the two supermarkets to each other is 10 miles, unless I go to Bude, but that's 37 miles from here! :rotfl:

I go there sometimes, if conditions are favourable, but looking at the weather forecast, I don't think it'll be Budeiful any time soon. :(

I buy my seed trays and pots from Wilkinson's - much cheaper than any garden centre.

So do I, especially when they are reduced to 10p along with the seeds in September.

Another plant day at Morrison's .
I have been lured in to spend... but not a lot!!
    1 x Jacob's Ladder (Polemonium) - looks a bit bashed- 7 pence (£1.37)
    1 x Alpine Ajuga-- 7 pence (£1.37)
4 pack of Tulip Guiseppi Verdi (actually 7 bulbs)- 10 pence (£2.00)
2 x Primrose Bowl - terracotta bowl with 3 primula- 20 pence each (£4.00 each)
    3 x Christmas Cactus (what I know as Zygocactus) 2 x pink, 1 x red - 15 pence each (£3 each)

The Christmas cactus do really well for me- they like easterly light, so I am very happy with them.
Outdoor plants are now outside. 3 primula planted in pot outside front door now together with the tulips

Grand Total spend : £1.09 compared with full cost=£21.74
    Saved £20.65 ;)
(But I wouldn't actully have bought them at full price- still a nice little batgain)

  • I find Morrison's great for reduced plants, have had some real bargains from there which all recovered well, apart from a hanging basket which I paid 50p for, the plants were dead, but it was worth that just for the basket.
Homebase can be good too, I managed to get a venus fly trap the other week for 69p and a couple of christmas succulents for 15p each.
