My...it's a bit brisk out there. A mere 3.5C and blowing a fair breeze.
House is warm and seems water-tight. Those are the main things.

So...the BS I have the mortgage with has written to my old address telling me my savings accounts interest rates have changed.
I wonder if they know I've moved...
One of the letters was amusing as it states a change in interest rate from 0.00% to 0.00%..."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

So...it would appear that my cynicism about "the great and the good" is as weak as dishwater in comparison with actual reality... https://news.sky.com/story/long-read-grenfell-britains-fire-safety-crisis-11146108

After Ronan Point significant changes were made to make sure collapse of system built tower blocks due to gas leaks didn't happen again.
After Grenfall the Government said they would fund essential works to prevent another Grenfell. It seems the fire service are not the people to decide what 'essential' is. The Government continue to argue.
I really really hate the 'stay put' policy. I understand the logic of it. You protect the stairwells and that way you contain any fire but it is absolutely pointless, in my opinion, if you are recreating a candle on the outside of the building.Debt LBM (08/09) £11,641. DEBT FREE APRIL 2021.

Now the cynic in me is thinking essential virtue signalling - but that is of course me...It seems the fire service are not the people to decide what 'essential' is.
The fire service should not be the people to decide. Those who are biased on one side of the equation make poor decisions, and there are always pros and cons which only someone in the middle considers. Certainly putting a ton of fire doors in would stop the transmission of fire ('fire' being half of the "Fire Service's" remit), but if it takes so long to get through that the building has collapsed - that's not so good.I really really hate the 'stay put' policy. I understand the logic of it.
Beware of logic. It's sold as the panacea of everything, but in actuality it just means that if your predicates are true, then all your further conclusions are true.
Did you see how fast I skated past that 'if'?
So, for example, a long time ago, but not in a galaxy far, far away, there was the event we now call "World War 2". A bunch of people started taking records of damage from returning bombers to see where they were most vulnerable (such as the tail), and armouring them. Sounds reasonable right?
Wrong.
Fortunately, intelligent people were still an indigenous species of this country back then, and they reasoned that if it came back full of holes, then that part had only (at best) a passing relationship with keeping the plane up in the air. They actually armoured the bits of the plane which were never damaged, reasoning that that must be because if it was damaged, then the plane dropped out of the sky and never came back. You protect the stairwells and that way you contain any fire
That's the theory, the reasoning, but I prefer to use the "outcomes" based method of reasoning.
For 9/11 people were told to shelter in place. Those that did, died.
Some survivors mention crossing people on the stairs coming back up. They'd been ordered to shelter in their offices. They died.
For Grenfell, those that stayed - died.
For something like a building fire, there are far fewer people who wandered into trouble and died, than stayed and died.but it is absolutely pointless, in my opinion, if you are recreating a candle on the outside of the building.
There are far too many other things that can go wrong, not just cheap plastic cladding declared to be the best thing since sliced bread by The Cheap Plastic Cladding Trade Association.
If you leave and are able to put distance between you and a problem, then it's no longer a problem for you.
However, my greatest problem with that Sky News report was the use of the legal system to silence people bringing forward safety concerns. Certainly, someone needs to go through all the threats issued (with public appeals for more information/threats) and disbar those solicitors involved. Then go through court records and check there were no successful cases for silence, and do likewise for any judges concerned."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Not so much the solicitors Z - they will, remember, have been working to instructions in the majority cases at least. Those who gave those instructions, however...
Point of interest on your aircraft analogy too - the RAF suffered a higher proportionate loss of Spitfires than Hurricanes - in spite of the fact that the Hurri's are older tech in terms of airframe built. That was exactly the thing that saved them in many cases though - a wooden framework with fabric stretched over is less prone to fatal damage than an aluminimum skin which tends to tear away when damaged.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
