Hard Footprint credit searches mistakenly left on my profile

Today a received a letter from Dollar UK stating that they had mistakenly left hard footprint searches on my credit profile. For this inconvenience they have offered me £75.
I would like to know if this is legitimate (I don't want to hand my bank details over to anyone without being sure) and if so is £75 the going rate.
Thanks in advance

    What do your files show?

    £75 would be very generous.
  • I wouldn't even know how to access my files to be honest. Apparently the hard footprints were left on my profile between August and November 2016
  • Don’t even go there. Hard searches get removed after a year. They’re gone. Sounds like someone is trying to scam you.

  • Ok thanks for the help

    Hi Neil 0303,

Whilst this sounds suspect, if you wish to check all 3 agencies to see what hard searches are on your credit files, you can get all 3 reports (for free) via these services:

    Experian report - https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/creditclub
    Equifax Report - https://www.clearscore.com/
    CallCredit - https://www.noddle.co.uk/

DollarUK has is the parent company of the following brands:

Be cautious about sending any bank details unsolicited, especially the long 16 digit card number and CVC (3 digits on the back).

As always, be sure to check our guide on spotting scams:

    I hope this helps.

What bank details are they asking for exactly?
  • Hi Guys,

So, I too received a letter (exactly the same as above) offering £75 in full and final settlement for "hard footprints" etc. etc.

I have historically had many payday loans and therefore, this therefore unsolicited (as such).

I do however remember reading recently that the contracts for some payday loans historically, breached certain rules and as such, people who took them out were now entitled to claim the full amount of any interest/fees charged (similar to the claiming back of unreasonable interest/bank charges that many were able to take advantage of).

Again, this is only a suspicion, but I would imagine they are offering a nominal compensation fee (£75) and in doing so are asking customers to sign to say they will not take further action against the higher losses.

I plan to take advice, because I'm not certain on the process for starting a claim against any unlawful contract. This particular company (Dollar UK) seems to span quite a few of the payday loan companies, so a single £75 payout would make good business sense for them to prevent further action against them.

    Any thoughts?

The bank details they are asking for are details for the crediting of £75 - there is a disclaimer that you have to sign to accept the "full and final offer"
  • I too received my £75 letter refund this morning. In my opinion it does look legit its only asking for the account number and sort code in where you would like the funds to be sent to.

I remember a few years ago the same thing happens with another firm (cash genie) where a similar amount was offered and true to their word the funds were received.

Having said the above I'm not sure if £75 is a reasonable amount? Anyone have any ideas if this is worth taking further to see if a higher value could be achieved?
  • If it is only hard searches that they are giving ‘compensation’ for then £75 is more than reasonable.

I know this is old fashioned but I think I would be asking for a cheque.

Sort code and account number are more than enough to screw you over with.
