Just been in B&Q and Wickes, looking for a band-saw.

Not only do neither store stock them, but the people on the Customer Service desk, didn't even know what a band-saw is.

Having been unable to find one, I decided I'd have to go old school, and do the job with a Fret Saw.

They only come with the blade fitted the wrong way round. :wall:

    If there is a branch not too far from you, Screwfix is always worth a look.
    This is their budget model:

    As an ex employee I can say they do sell them but only generally in the larger stores.

    As for the fret saws they sold that way for a couple of reasons. One is to prevent from dulling the blade and the other is to prevent the blade snagging. Every saw with an easily removable blade is sold this way.

    FYI, very little training is given on products. Im cool enough to have an interest in tools and diy, most people including my ex colleagues are not.

    Sorry just noticed the in stock bit. They don't really sell, never got asked for one in 10 years.

    B&Q are to builders/tradespersons as McDonalds are to gourmands, so similar limitations apply.

    B&Q don't necessarily accept this analogy, as they are trying to woo trade customers with dual pricing, but this turns off occasional purchasers with 'proper' trade accounts elsewhere.

    I dropped in to a local one to pick up a couple of bags of Mastercrete....and walked out shortly after when I saw what they wanted to charge me!

    Actually, I didn't mean the blade was fitted with the smooth side out.

    I meant the blade was fitted the wrong way, end to end.

    I second Axminster. Their trade stuff is phenomenal and the hobby stuff is excellent value.

    Thier customer service is also very good.

    I never saw that coming.

    I would second Screwfix for a cheap bandsaw, but you probably have to get it delivered the stores don't generally stock them.
