In answer to the other question, no there is no limit to the number of ATM withdrawals you can make.

This is a very good feature as you could use this card as a mean to get a small bank note anytime as often as you want from the cash machine abroad to dispense a small denomination of banknote.

Don't know if its been mentioned here and avoiding any debate on if the Caxton is good or not, just pass on info to regular users..

They do a special offer rate each Monday morning 9 - 12 (I certainly didn't know) where they offer an enhanced Euro rate for a card load.

Conditions are the higher rate is only applied to a load of £600 or more.

Their home page shows the enhanced rate live until 12pm then it drops to normal. If you go to the load page any lower sum will show the lower regular rate, once you enter £600 or more the rate shown rises to the offer rate.

The enhanced rate isn't amazing but it was better than any actual currency purchase at the time, although less than specialist cards today.
European for 3 weeks in August, the rest of the year only British and proud.

Had my first ATM failure using my Monzo card this evening. The card was returned as not accepted by machine. A Halifax Clarity had the same result. Barclays card (Visa) accepted though so assume that particular bank just doesn't like Mastercard. Went round the corner to a different bank and the Monzo was accepted with no problem.

Please can you help me as I'm at my wits end. My daughter, age 17, is going abroad to Hong Kong and Beijing with her school. I will get her some currency for both countries but need her to have access to additional funds. She is too young to have a credit card and even some of the pre-paid cards exclude under 18s. I would like a card that I can load up initially with some funds but add onto in the case of an emergency. And I need it to be easy to do from my end. I wanted to use the post office one, but they seem to exclude under 18's. She has a bank account with Halifax but her card is coming up as very bad to use abroad. But I don't know if this is just bad as in "not the best but ok for small amounts and emergencies" or BAD as in "do not use abroad you will be robbed". I am beginning to panic. Thanks

The Halifax card is "bad" because it's expensive to use.

For several low value transactions it's very poor value. For larger value one off transactions it's not the end of the world.

She should authorise her Halifax card for overseas use on the dates she's travelling, this can be done online or by phone or branch visit.

You can and should set up a payment facility to send her funds in case of emergency, and send her a test £1 now to prove it works. You now have a "get cash to child in emergency" option in place.

She should avoid using it to buy things like a McDonalds meal or a coffee. Better value will be achieved by making a single larger cash withdrawal and paying cash for things. When she's 18 she can have her own Monzo card.

No foreign exchange nor ATM withdrawal charges and of course you'll be dealing with an established institution.
No need to get her currency. They have perfectly good ATM machines in Hong Kong and Beijing.

Current VISA exchange rate: HK$10.045 and CNY8.742. So far in excess of whatever you would obtain if you were able to purchase currency beforehand.

    Hi,
I'm off to Australia in 4 weeks, stopping off at Dubai there & Bangkok coming home for a few days each. I don't really want the hassle of the Halifax Clarity. After reading through some of these pages it looks like 2 currency cards is the way to go, I'm just unsure of which. Maybe Monzo & FairFX?
When in Australia we will be driving down the east coast for a few days so I'm not sure what connectivity will be like for the app cards
