They picked us up from our motel in Te Anau and the bus driver was great- told us lots of interesting facts etc.

We did consider this originally but decided not to for 2 main reasons:

1) We wanted to get to Milford Sound early to avoid the coach crowd.

2) On the way back we wanted to do the Key Summit Walk. I couldn't find any coach company that offered flexibility.

Obviously the disadvantage of driving is that I won't get to enjoy the scenery, but I have planned to stop at most of these places on the way to Milford Sound (https://www.backpackerguide.nz/15-stops-cant-miss-road-to-milford-sound/)
