How do I choose the windows updates I only want to install on windows 10?

Hello,

I installed the latest creator update on one of my computers, lots of problems with windows freezing etc, so went back to before the update with my acronis drive image of 10, working perfectly.

1 I can't seem to find an option in 10 (as in windows 7) so that I can install what updates I want to install only, is there one?

2 Just wondering is a way to skip the creator update altogether and still be secure as I bank online with that computer?

Thanks for any help.

It depends on the windows version you are using

If professional then there is a area under updates where you can untick the update or just move to manual updates.

I understood than in W10 you can only delay updates in the pro edition.
To be able to not have certain update you need the enterprise edition which is only for large corporates with their own IT dept who need to vet machines possibly controlling external units with specialist interfacing sotware for compatibility prior to applying updates (or not).

I understand that it may well be a third party problem other than windows itself that is causing the freezing, so just wondering since I have gone back to the pre creator update through my acronis image, does this mean that windows will probably just download the creator update again which may well cause the same problems?
    Thanks

It more than likely will eventually, but did you investigate what the "freezing etc" were? I have installed the CU (Creators Update aka C**K Up) on two machines and a virtual one too which are not mainstream PC's and have had no problems. If you set you PC t be using a metered connection it won't download them until you tell it to. However you may expose yourself to vulnerabilities if you do that. You can always go back using your TI image again if need to and see if the good folks on here can help with your problems if you let it update.(I know it causes you lost time but hey onwards and upwards )

Did windows really automatically update your computer to creators edition already? I ask because I deliberately updated my laptop, and that went completely smoothly. My desktop has not got round to updating itself yet, and I wonder whether this is being rolled out at all fast yet?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

  • I actually just went ahead and installed it, read about it in a computer magazine, in windows settings I believe.

Its just the home edition of windows and its just the windows I use for online banking as additional security no general browsing.
Windows would randomly freeze, back pre creator everything is fine.

If you don't use a wireless connection there is no way to block the W10 turd delivery system. I chose to download the creators build so that I had plenty of time to play about and it all went much more smoothly than the anniversary update, I,E. didn't kill classic shell, didn't change every setting, didn't change the wallpaper and didn't make every turd app the default (just some of them).

New features of use to me = zero.
And only 1GB, try 1.9. Thats about £6 for something I don't want.

Lets all hold our breath for the creatures Autumn update.

I'm curious what the point of Classic Shell is in W10?

I suspect those using it have never tried the native menuing. Once I discovered right click or windows + x I decided that the native menu provided was adequate.
