I started couch to 5k last week, loving it so far. I'm very unfit but decided to start on week 2 anyway as I have done a bit of running in the past. although after 2 runs I've got back into it pretty quickly and managed a 15 min run without walking this morning (albeit quite slowly), except for a REALLY steep hill that makes me out of breath just walking up it let along running!
Think I'll just be working up my stamina next with or without the app I'm not sure.
like someone has already suggested, I really like the shock absorber ultimate run bra, really holds you up and isn't too badly priced- RRP is about £30-40ish, but you can get it a bit cheaper on ebay. I got mine for about £25 I think.
keep us all updated on how you're all doing! would love to have a little support group!

Best sports bras I've found are Shock Absorber. I'm a D cup and they are very supportive, they are a bit pricey at £38 but I wait until Debenhams have 25% off and buy them. Even washing them twice a week mine are at least three years old so worth paying extra.

I agree with getting your gait analysed at a running shop, a basic pair is £60 max and again worth the extra outlay IMO. I personally would avoid SD.
Whilst SD don't have the best reputation, my local one were extremely helpful (this will be area specific). Do you know of any other non specialist shops who will be able to test the OPs arches and point out which shoes are suitable for their foot style?

Again I don't know if this service they offered me is area specific, if your local shop don't offer it OP then I agree with littleblue, avoid them!

I have heard of people using the specialist shops for testing then buying cheaper elsewhere :( personally I disagree with this and its never something I would do myself, if I can't afford to shop there then I would not take advantage of their services they offer.
I agree, I would never use their services then go buy elsewhere. I travelled 10 miles to my local running shop and after the test run I was worried that they would tempt me to buy some flash expensive trainers. As the guy said I'm starting out so won't need anything flash so I left with a basic pair at £60 which are still fine two years later so I would defo recommend travelling to a specialist shop and using their expertise.
PS our SD is dreadful but I do agree it depends on attitude of the staff etc.

It really depends on what prices i get offered. I cannot afford anything over £50 (max!) for trainers. I hope they can offer me something for that.

I am a DD, so it looks like shock absorber bras are a good idea. But i used to have one of those when i went to the gym and it made my boobies look cone shaped  :rotfl:

Personally I would not recommend that, running around a track is extremely boring. Do you have a park close by where you can run? Ideally you want to run in different areas so you don't get bored and de-motivated.

First thing is good, I used to run straight after the school run so I didn't have time to go home and get bogged down with anything else.

Oh i didn't mean a running track, just a route really. There is a beautiful lake near me and it is exactly 5K.
I agree,, a track would be boring!

I did c25k a few years ago, and now think of myself as a runner. It was a great way to start. I've done quite a few triathlons since as well.

Once you get going a bit you could find your nearest Parkrun, it is a great free organisation, and its great to run with others. No one cares about how slow you are, it's really addictive and a great way of meeting like minded people and getting extra motivation. Some people walk/run round my local park run so you could do it while listening to c25k.

There is an organisation in my area called beginners 2 runners, not sure if they are nation wide or just local to me, but think they use c25k principles, but in a supportive group atmosphere.

What ever you do, good luck, it is a great way to be active.

ETA, just read through and seen how many times I put 'great' in my post!! think that sums up how I feel about running:D

Thanks flissh :) I have already looked at Parkrun, and there are a few within an hours drive from me, but none closer. The nearest is this one, so i'll aim for that once i am confident in my ability.

    Its amazing scenery!

    Hi I love baking :)

I'm glad to see someone else has started! Are you using the NHS one, or something else?
I'll definitely start at week 1 day 1, as i am not fit at all and am a little overweight.

How are you finding it, are you enjoying it?

Yeah I've been using the NHS one as it's free and I like that I could choose Sarah Milliacan as my trainer! but I think I might freestyle now I've got back into it, not sure, I might dip in and out of it. I just find it a little frustrating that it seems to play the same few songs over and over, which seems to be adele for me which isn't the best running music!
It is good if you've never really run or are unfit (like me) as it starts you off slowly and builds your stamina up. I've enjoyed it so foar, so hoping I can keep it up!!

When are you thinking of starting?

I keep reading all the posts on the this and have decided I am going to join you all :T

I will make time as it does make you fell much better afterwards which will be good for me.

I kept my trainers but need to purchase a new bra (will be an ebay special) As I am flat chested I can start without a proper one, the first few weeks if I remember are mainly walking so I should be fine.

Looking forward to it, I aim to start next week :D

    :j :j :T :T YAY! The more the merrier :)

If you are starting on Monday, we'll start on the same day too.

I am going to do some research this weekend, on what app to use. I was going to do the NHS one, but i'd like to be able to listen to my own music.

I have heard of a zombie themed one..that sounds interesting!!

Ok I hereby commit to starting on Monday :)

I have said it now so have to do it.

The only thing I need is headphones, can anyone recommend a type/style to use?

    Thanks

I just used my iPhone ones when i used to go to the gym, but not sure how they'll cope with running.
    Another thing to research :)
