Oh the temptation of buying those doughnuts must of been so hard to resist I imagine, so well done to you all. I just can't justify buying food and drink no more when we go for days out. Its always better to take your own food if you can. Its a lot cheaper and you know exactly what you are getting. Years gone by it was just a matter of buying what we want because it was only x amount of money, but x amount of money all adds up.

NSD today :j first of the month, I'm going from payday which was yesterday!

I have moved all the money over to the different accounts and done all of my sums and I have £213 to last me the month for things not budgeted. I also have £58 in my purse which I'm going to try and make last for as long as possible.

The food budget has £163 left in it. This is the first time I've included toiletries etc at the beginning of the month so it just may not be enough but I'll try and keep to it, we have full cupboards for now.

I want to try and keep up the high debt repayments but as all my cards are 0% I'm not sure if I should just put it into the savings account if I can overpay, it sort of takes away the joy of a reducing balance but I know it makes sense really. Just for my own motivation, any money that goes into the savings account I am going to reduce from my diary balances, which will make me feel better.

Today at work we have all been chatting about wages. Since I have moved to the new department I am the professional on the lowest pay band as I have moved to a more specialist team. I have been thinking about my career progression and how I will get onto the higher pay bands etc but today they have been telling me that they don't actually bring home much more than me because they are in a higher tax bracket and a higher pension bracket so get a load of deductions. I am really ambitious but I wonder if it is all worth it if I can stay in a relatively low stress job (as much as it can be in my line of work) and bring home an OK wage. I just don't think I'll be happy to stagnate but it really is deceiving, when you see the pay bands you dream of what you would do with that amount of money each month, but you don't think about the deductions etc

Anyway enough pondering I am off to be a good wifey for once and do a spot of cleaning, the builders are still here everyday and somehow there is sand absolutely everywhere, I wouldn't mind if I'd had a nice day at the beach but I've been at work all day :rotfl:

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Hi Emmie

One thing to consider in your career planning is self fulfillment. It's such an important thing. More important than money too. So I'd keep pushing on in your career if it's what you want. I don't know what industry you work in but you may find you could take the next step up within one company, and find another willing to pay you more in any case.
When I was working in industry it was always when I moved company that I gained considerable amounts, never within the organisation worked for.
If you aren't happy standing still then have a think about what you would like to be doing and look externally. If nothing else it gives you power to negotiate with that knowledge.

  • Agree totally with Bob. I have a little Venn diagram with one circle showing skills, one personality and one interests. The bit where it overlaps has ideal job in it. It might be worth playing about with that idea when making a decision.

Thanks bob and INOD I feel a bit better today I have had a 1:1 with my manager and she has asked about my career plans, I gave a really optomistic answer and she said it was reasonable and she would support me to get the knowledge and skills to be able to do my dream job. It's not going to be overnight but she was really impressed with some ideas I had for taking the team forwards so I felt super motivated all afternoon and got back and did a report in super quick time because I was so fired up.

On a spends front I have spent £1.99 on some wool for my DD she has just started knitting and wants to make a everybody's Christmas present, she is starting with a baby blanket for her new cousin, I don't think they are going to be perfect but they will have a lovely keep sake and it will only cost £1.99 :) I got the wool from dunelm and it was so hard to not buy anything else, I've realised my big weakness is anything house related, cheap household crap is my poison :o I've got a bit of money in my purse and I want everything, plants, bar stools, you name it I'm plotting to get it, I must stay focused.

Builders are still working away but it is starting to look good now, I'm starting to look forward to the weekend when we can sit out in the sun on our beautiful new patio

What a nightmare, I got flashed by a speed camera yesterday :( my new job is on an A road and the speed alternates between 60, 50, and a tiny bit of 40, I was driving back yesterday and was in dream world because I was annoyed with a client who had messed me around all afternoon, then I saw the flash and realised I was in a 40 zone. I have no idea what speed I was doing, I think around 50, I've looked online and the fines are massive now and if I was doing over 52 then I can't even go on the course, I automatically get the points. I was so annoyed with myself all night, I have been driving for 14 years and never had a speeding fine before. DH just keeps saying to not think about it and hope it's got no film in, but we all know it will have and I'll have a £500 fine :(

Still feeling pretty crappy about the speeding fine but hey ho its not the end of the world and it has made me concentrate so much more when I am driving today. I think that because I am driving so many miles in my new job I have gotten a little blase.
I cant stay down when its FRIDAY :T
The builders have not turned up today which I'm a bit gutted about because they are so close to finishing now but the longer they don't finish the longer the money is in DH's account earning interest :)
No children tonight so instead of a night out I have been writing reports and DH has been and brought a dine in for 2 from Tesco. I'm just going to run a brush through my hair and put a bit of make-up on and then I'll be all set for a cheap date night.
This weekend my mission is to refurbish the guinea pig hutch as cheaply as possible, at the moment it is falling apart and my mum has messaged saying there is a good one in the range for £39.99 but I think I can do something with the existing one and spend much less.
I also need to meal plan and get some bits ready for the week, I might even try my hand at a bit of baking!!
NSD for me again today, as was yesterday except for the mahoosive fine winging its way to me :rotfl:
