  • I'm getting very late in working out my percentages each month! July update here. Didn't do as well as I would have liked, and I'm feeling the pinch this month too.

44% towards my target. Hope to hit the half way mark in October :)

Hmm. While I am always happy to see payday and add to my savings (etc etc), I would not go do far as to wish time would go faster to make my savings grow more quickly. Do not wish your life away as my gran always said (and she was right) ;) xo

    Hi guys

New to the forum so thought I'd share my story . I'm in my mid 20s and working full time. I was saving up for a house deposit and managed to save 70.5K. This was before I started playing around with the idea of buying a new car. Two weeks on and I have ended up buying something that has cost me an arm and a leg (personal contract purchase £9k deposit, £190 monthly payments for 36 months + insurance, and final balloon payment of £10K).

I was just so blinded by the idea of owning something nice that I completely missed the bigger picture. I do love the car and enjoy driving it but ultimately this has been a massive waste once depreciation is taken into account.

My other half and myself still manage to save roughly £1000-1200 a month which doesn't seem enough anymore.

    So that's basically it. / rant. :)

You saved 70.5K by the time you were in your mid twenties? Am i alone in thinking you must have been selling crack to acheive that!

Assuming this is your only source of income, and you're on the standard tax code (647L)...

    Annual Income (approx) 25208
(assuming 41 hours at T1/2 per fortnight)

    Personal Allowance is 6475
    So Taxable @ 20% = 18733
    therefore tax is 3746.60.

Primary threshold for NI is 5875
    So NIable @ 11% = 19333
    therefore NI is 2126.63

    Net pay is 25208 - 3746.60 - 2126.63 = 19335

...which is about £744 a fortnight.
