LL sending surveyor round, can I ask why?

Our LL has asked a surveyor to come round. We have asked the surveyor company and they don't know why and we haven't heard a peep from the LL about it (first thing we knew is when the surveyor called us) ... Obviously it could be something serious such as he's thinking of selling or something that doesn't affect us like changing insurance providers.

Is it frowned upon or unprofessional to ask a LL why they are having it surveyed? Looking online most people say their LL rang them and told them why in advance but sadly ours hasn't done this. If it was for any other reason we wouldn't care but if he's selling, the more notice we have the longer we have to save for a deposit.

You can ask, he might not tell you. Doesn't hurt to though.

It could be that he is remortgaging and needs it revalued.

If you are concerned, keep an eye on Rightmove.

If I were you I would contact the LL to check that he has actually instructed a surveyor before you agree to let them in. Ring the LL and check, and at the same time ask why the surveyor is coming.

Do you know it is actually the landlord who has instructed the surveyor, rather than a lender (or purchaser)?
