Do you recognise this painting?
I help out at a local charity shop and we have had a painting for a little while. We have been offered a sum for it, but one of our workers thinks it's worth more, but we are struggling to have it valued.
There is a signature on it and I will try to get a better picture later, but for now, does anyone recognise this painting?

DH says he thinks he does, but between us we're not sure if it's the painting we recognise, or the style. Artist's name would help.
Will a local auction house not help with valuation? Will they not at least confirm if it's likely to be an original, or a copy / print?Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Looks a bit like a Dutch Old Master style to me, (Vermeer?) Style of cap? I'm sure I've seen it before but can't trace it now. Is there anything of the back of the painting? Do let us know if you find out anything.......0

I've also seen it before but can't place it either.
It reminds me of a Rudolf Epp (German) painting, also of an old woman with a cat.[FONT="][FONT="] Fighting the biggest battle of my life. Started 30th January 2018.

Tried using various painting/image recognition apps but nothing came up.0

Isn't it Whistlers Mother? Or possibly his Aunt?0

The picture has some age to it, but the hands and the objects on the table are not of great quality so I would doubt the picture is worth a great deal. A restorer, art gallery or auction house would be able to advise better. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0

It's rather like this one.https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Gabriel_Metsu_-_Old_Woman_Eating_Porridge_(with_a_cat).jpg
If what looks like a tear is a tear, then any value will be much reduced.0 -
Seems to have been a popular theme at one time....'old woman seated at table wearing white cap and with cat'

That's the one I think it looks like too, but I couldn't get the link to work.[FONT="][FONT="] Fighting the biggest battle of my life. Started 30th January 2018.
