Over 70s Help

Hi,

my parents are both over 70, but claim NO benefits at all.
They own their own home.

The central heating is on its last legs (I believe the boiler was installed 30 years ago).

Are there any grants they can claim towards fitting a new boiler please?

Or for loft insulation or cavity wall?

All this recent talk by Gordon Brown has got them confused.

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers,
Karen

Certainly all over 70's will get loft and wall insulation free.

It was originally announced that it would be all pensioners I believe, but that statement has been retracted.

There are grants for new boilers etc but they are means tested, see:

  • If they're with Eon get them to call and ask for the Caring Energy team (0800 number on their website). They'll let them know if there are any grants available etc.

If either one of them has a health condition they may be able to get grants through health through warmth - it depends if the scheme is running in their area and what the condition is

It's scheme run by n-power but they don't have to be n-power customers.

  • If they live in Scotland, the system is different from the previous posts. In some circumstances full central heating can be installed free of charge, as well as insulation etc. See link .
