He's gorgeous. Good luck

He is gorgeous! One other thing to mention is to leave him on his own for a minute or two from very early on. Build it up as he gets older, it will help prevent separation anxiety later on.Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j
If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!0 -

We're getting a new pup next month too. The house has been very quiet with a dog around.
I just found a great book called Total Recall by Pippa Mattinson. It's written by a gun dog trainer - however I think it's a great process for all types of dogs. It's reminded me how specific, consistent and frequent training needs to be. And it really underlines having some extra special jackpot treats to motivate the pup and to continue to use great treats sometimes and more mundane ones as well as strokes or toys throughout their lives.
Ours is a terrier .......so I guess will never be as reliable as a gun dog breed. However we are going to follow the programme. I like the way she proofs the dog, by testing the behaviours in ways that help the dog be successful.
I also found a DVD but haven't ordered it called crate games - it's about making the crate a fun place and getting the pup responsive to commands. Still pondering whether to buy that one as I think I can make up some good games involving racing back to the crate. Google it and you'll see some videos.
For me the key thing with a puppy is that its easier to train from the start and put the time in. That way you don't have a dog who pulls or won't come back when you call. It's essential to have the whole family agree on basic rules ( no jumping up, not on the furniture unless invited up for a cuddle, good manners) and to do lots of training so the dogs a pleasure to live with not rushing the front door, knocking over babies etc. so definitely put the time in and get your family to join in.
Enjoy your pup.

My puppies do go in a crate before they go to a new home, but 12 days is way too young to be crating them. They should still be in the whelping box with mum at that age. Legs and paws getting stuck in bars as they try to move about doesn't bare thinking about
Just noticed you are getting a labradoodle. It's not the best thing that the breeder owns both mum and dad, few good breeders do. Have you seen their hip and elbow score certificates and BVA eye test certificates - do they have good scores and are unaffected?0 -

Keep doing what you're doing. Don't come back in until he's been. Give a small tasty food reward when he goes where you want him too, maybe take him out on a lead so he doesn't get distracted. Try and choose a spot in the garden that's sheltered so he feels safe, and make sure you clean the spots in the carpet thoroughly, detergent followed by white vinegar or white spirit. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0
