Refreezing minced beef?

Hi I have a quick question - I am having a party this Saturday for our Silver Wedding and plan to make a pasta bake with minced beef as part of a buffet. I bought mince last weekend and put into the freezer and was planning to take it out to defrost today and then make the bake today (I am at work the rest of the week so wanted to do this ahead of time) and then was going to put back into the freezer until the weekend. Is this ok to do ie defrost mince, cook it in a dish then put back into the freezer??

I don't want to cause any dodgy tummies at my party??!!!

Thanks for any advice

I have done in the past loads with no problems,

But I'm not sure if your supposed to or not so maybe someone who knows for sure will come along :)
  • As long as the mince has been thoroughly cooked their shouldn't be a problem.:)

Yes it is okay to freeze once cooked as it was previously frozen raw.
Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.

Yes of course - I do it all the time :) you have changed the state of the meat by cooking it so it is fine to re-freeze.

On a related note though have you actually frozen pasta bake before? I'm not sure how well cooked pasta freezes, just from a quality and texture point of view...

Thanks everyone for your replies - it will save me time later on in the week if I can make it today and freeze.

daisiegg - the lady who I got the recipe from told me that she does that all the time making it and freezing it so I will give it a go.

Just praying for good weather now for the party as we are having about 40 and they won't all fit in the house so lets hope the sun shines

the most important thing is to re heat the defrosted dish to a high temperature, once its served , ensure no one re heats it again as it cools. ie, if someone wants seconds later on.

It should be fine, i regularly make bolognese from thawed frozen mince then dispense into tub with cooked pasta and freeze so i can take to work for lunches.

    Enjoy your party x
