Do Police actually certify documents?
I hear bank staff can refuse to do so regularly
And it can be outrageous to pay 8 quid or so per document to a solicitor

I don't think you'll find anywhere doing it for free. £8 doesn't seem excessive, who do you think pays their overheads? I'd prefer to think that the police are making better use of their time.0

Many solicitors will do it free of charge if you have been a client of theirs in the past. If you've employed one for a house purchase that's where I would start0

The profit margins must be very high just for a stamp and a signature lool!
Hmm but the back office staff serve the public in a different way...0 -

Certifying two to three documents probably pays for the lifetime of the stamp at £8 a time
All it entails is stamping a document with a stamp that says 'We hereby certify this document to be a true copy of the original' (or wording to that effect) and then signing it. 10 seconds, tops.
The firm I work for charges £7 ish, but as said above we'd do it free for regular clients. What will your verse be?

What is this for?
Different organisations have different requirements in terms of both what professions can sign and what connection, if any, they must (or must not) have with you.
If you say who it is thats requiring proof then it may be easier for people to help. Given you've put this in banking then for example for First Direct you can go to a HSBC for free.0 -

In a Tesco Bank branch (rather than store) they probably will but unless you live close its unlikely to be cost effective0
