State Pension or Severe Disability Allowance

I'll be 65 next month (where did all those years go to :D) I am currently unmarried and have no dependents. I currently receive the higher rate of DLA care and the low rate of mobility. I am also in receipt of SDA and pension credit.

Today I received a letter from the DWP inviting me to choose between either the SDA or State Pension when I reach 65. I don't know what to do, or how to figure out which would be best for me.

Can anyone give me a run through on the ins and outs of this particular change? Does it mean anything in real terms?

When I have some understanding of what it's all about I'll head down to my local CAB, just want to have some idea of what it is all about before then.

As always many thanks

Kevin

seems to suggest (don't know whether it is up to date, sorry) that claiming SDA and deferring your state pension does not enhance your state pension when you eventually take it (deferring it in some situations does enhance it)

So, if this is true then I suppose it will depend on how much your state pension is and how much your SDA is and whether the SDA adds any premiums to your Pension credit.

CAB should be able to do a 'better off' calculation for you but you will need all the facts and figures first (eg your state pension forecast/recent bank statement/award letters)

There are some useful telephone numbers in the link. (Better google and check they are still the right ones!)

isn't SDA stopping, or am I mixed up with something else?

The Government website state: Your claim won’t be re-assessed if you’ll reach State Pension age before 6 April 2014 and I'll be there next month!
