What type of competitions generate sales?

Just whizzing through a load of comps and thought -
"I wonder which type of competition generates the most sales for a competition organiser/ sponsor?"
I'm not the sort to be swayed by advertising, but... I have returned to a site when I was looking for a specific item, and they were the cheapest, so in a way their advertising - by- competition worked.
So my question is:-
Of all the types-
fb, tw, rafflecopter, spot the logo on website, dailies, simple form, newletter sign- up, email entry etc.
Which is more likely to make you visit their webite/ shop and or make a purchase?
Purely out of interest- I am not a company, nor do I work in marketing!!!(your details will not be passed to any third parties).
I am a Random Number!(£174)
2016:£14(venus),£50(WhiteHouse),£100(NisaNoFear),£10(SportsDirect)

I'm guessing that the ones that you have to pick an item you like from the website and say why you like it would generate a lot of sales as more people will see things that they actually want to own
  • The purchases I have made have been purely based on the prize being advertised. I have purchased products that I didn't win, and went on to buy the rest of a trilogy of books after winning the first one.
I also think some of my wins will result in future purchases as I have really enjoyed the product, or found the product to be fantastic quality meaning I would favor that brand over others.

The only time I've gone onto purchase something was from a fashion site that offered a £10 off voucher at the end of the comp - went on to browse to see if they had anything worthwhile and discovered they stocked a hard-to-find clothing brand my boyfriend loves, and they often have it on sale!

They don't appear when you search for the brand on google so I never would have known they existed if it weren't for the comp...they've had a lot of repeat business from me now :)
