Trying to request tax repayment online.

in Cutting tax
Hi,
I hope I'm in the right place to ask this question!
On Monday morning I completed my husbands tax return online as he had received his p60 from his employer. He was self employed up until Dec 2011 and was late filing last years return so we were told we would need to do one for 2012-2013 as well.
It is showing he is entitled to just over £700 repayment which I think is because he was on a higher tax code due to being self employed and also working for someone else. Anyway I clicked on request repayment and filled in our bank details just as I did last year (£400 refunded then). It said that it would take 48 hours to process so I logged on this morning to see if anything had changed.
His repayment is now showing on his account with 'not yet allocated' next to it and it is asking me to request payment again which I have done. Last year it just switched to 'payment pending' and appeared in our account 4days later.
I'm wondering if the fact I've paid his penalty charges in the last 3 weeks is causing a problem? He works long hours hence me doing all the paperwork, am I going to have to get him to call them. They won't give me any details because I'm not officially his nominee.
Sorry for the length, hope someone can advise! Thanks.

Oh and forgot to add whenever I go onto his account there is a message saying 'daily penalties may be accruing as you tax return is outstanding' but I have submitted it way ahead of deadline and last years has been submitted and penalties paid.
Sorry for the edit, thanks again.0 -
I thought I would just post a quick reply to my earlier question in case people are searching the forum for similar answers.
It turns out that you need to wait 30 days after making a payment to HMRC before attempting to request a repayment. Today is day 31 so I went online to check the account and the message about daily penalties was still showing.
I have now just called HMRC, my call was answered very quickly! The woman was really helpful and has maunually requested the repayment for me and told me to call back in 10 days if I had not received anything from them. It means that we'll receive a cheque instead but am just pleased to hopefully have the money on the way!0 -

Hi Kariakoo,
Good luck with your call today! I really wished I'd just phoned them straight away as money would probably be here by now.
Very frustrating isn't it! Let us know how you get on.
Husbands account still says penalties accruing today so hoping we're not still going to be held up

If he owes tax, HMRC will offset any refund against any tax due, and then refund the difference (if any is left).
Can you confirm if there is still any tax outstanding after the calculation of the penalties ?.0 -
Hi Antonic,
No he doesn't owe any tax and we paid the late filing penalty last month.
This should be the last year we have to do SA as he stopped being self-employed at the end of 2011. They said we would have to complete one for 2012-2013 because of the penalties paid. I have also submitted a 'no longer trading' form.
I was hoping it was going to be pretty straightforward! :rotfl:
Edit; account still says outstanding this morning.0 -
