UPDATE AT THE END!
I purchased some boots on a buy it now this morning. I paid in full immediately.
The seller has just emailed me to say that as the boots cost £7.92 more to post than they allowed, i MUST sent them the difference ???
Really?? i dont want to be unfair but if it had been an extra £8 on the listing for postage then i would not have bid... They have already sent it so i cant even just cancel the sale
I am dreading abusive emails now

If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs, its just possible you haven't grasped the situation

Just reply politely saying it is up to them to check postage charges before listing.
They cant neg you if you paid by paypal but you can show the full picture in any feedback and stars.

Gary.
They can't neg you if you paid in brass buttons, sellers can't neg buyers full stop.
Don't pay. And if they leave you a false positive feedback get it removed.0 -
Unless the seller specified that postage charges might be variable and you'd both sort it after sending, there is naff all they can do.
You bought the books, you paid the postage quoted, it's their problem not yours.
I bought something last month (maybe the one before) where they had specified collection only but they agreed to break the lot and sell me the bits I wanted by post if I would pay the extra after they sent it. I kept my side of the deal because they had been ultra helpful and because I was expecting it. Had they thrown that at me after sending and never agreed it with me I would have told them to get stuffed.
If your seller didn't agree this with you first then that really is their problem.0 -

I got a parcel last month which had cost the buyer a heap more to post but they sent it without comment
I sent the extra postage because it was still a bargain even with the extra postage and she had been caught out with the new postage prices.
As the OPs seller posted the boots she has accepted the increase and is perhaps hoping for goodwill from the buyer. Having said that £7.92 extra seems a lot. In that situation I would have contacted the buyer and asked if the would have minded me sending it by courier to cut the cost. I've done that and both times the buyer has agreed

If you paid and they sent it and it arrives, nothing more needs to be done.0

They arrived and were in ok condition for the price i paid..so far so good..
Then the emails started, getting more and more nasty demanding that i paid etc. I kept saying that it was their choice to use an expensive method of carriage and it wasnt right just to expect me to pay effectively a third more for them
In the end i complained to Ebay using the live chat- they said it must have been an honest mistake by the seller and if i was an honest buyer i would just pay the difference  not at all bothered by the nastiness i have had.
So ive paid the difference and left my first ever negative in 18 years
feel tearful and shaky as i would never have bought the bloomin things IF the real price had been stated- i'm tempted just to chuck them in a charity shop as i cant face wearing them after all of this. I'm a good buyer who always pays instantly and isnt pushy for immediate delivery yet feel like i've been punished for something that wasnt my fault

Why on earth did you pay?
The advice on here was spot on.0 -
You paid? Stuff that. You were under absolutely no obligation at all. Stuff what ebay say you've done nothing wrong!0
-
What a shame you felt so bullied into paying, and what ridiculous 'advice' from the eBay rep. Try to put it behind you. You could try selling the boots on (at least you know how much they'd cost to send!) or donating them to a charity shop might make you feel better
