New Double Glazed Windows Quote

Hi,

We are looking to get new UPVC windows and a new backdoor.

We have had got 3 quotes in total.

The 1st was a DIY (supply only) quote, 8 windows and a door came to £3300 + the building regs fee.

The 2nd quote was from a local firm who started off with a quote of £5800 for the 8 windows and the backdoor but would throw in georgian bar if we signed up on the spot. We declined and then 3 days later they rang dropping the quote to £4,750

The 3rd quote was from another local firm, who had already been out to us a few years ago to price the job as "trade" (when we was renovating)

The price in 2010 was £4880, but when the trade guy came round he said it was now £4400...

After he left we got 2-3 calls (lots of missed calls too), 1st the price went up to £4,500 and then down to £4,200

The firm from the 2nd quote had a really good sales pitch, windows looked great and had loads of features. The 3rd quote was trade so no pressure selling (until the office started calling me) and the product looks ok...

Is £4,200 a good price? What should i be asking these firms?

Thanks in advance

Company who quoted £5800 and then £4800 have now quoted £3900

Whats the point of these firms starting high and coming down, id prefer the best price, not have to go through 6 or 7 phone calls to get the a price..

We had our windows done in feb:
    9 windows
    Front composite door
    Rear french doors
    Rosewood outside with white inside
    A rated frames
    £4500

We considered that to be a very good price

    Sorry should have included that.

We're in Derby, and Safestyle did the work.

I know Safestyle isn't to everyone's liking, but they did a good enough job and were considerably cheaper than Anglian and a local firm, both were £1500 more with a standard upvc door instead of the composite.

I used an independent last year for A rated products, extra security, laminated glass etc.
    22 windows
    3 pairs of french doors
    2 glazed external doors
    1 composite door

With repairs to cavity walls and damp courses this was under £8000. This was lower than another local quote, but not by a huge sum.
  • I've just had a quote for Triple glazing.

    8 windows and a back door, £6150

Salesman reckons the price is final but im sure if I long it out a bit the price will come down.

I've had a quote from safestyle, guy didnt even measure the windows. reckons he can do it for £4250.... but someone I no has had them in and it wasnt good.
