The "Pay ALL your debt off by Xmas 2012" challenge - PART 3!!! 3rd Apr 12 at 9:16 PM
    Hey everyone, it's me again!!!

On 15th November 2011 I created a challenge to pay off all my debts by Xmas 2012. Along the way I am proud to have been joined by over 300 wonderful people who all have the same goal in mind, to be debt free by Xmas 12.

So far, we have have pledged to pay off over 3million and have so far already paid off over 300,000 in just 19 weeks which is phenomenal.

On the next few posts are the lists of all our lovely members and their totals paid off versus what they started the challenge with. Don't worry about working out the % as I can do this for you, although I will put how you can work them out for yourself on one of the next few posts!

We also have a weightloss challenge on this thread as well as a mini weekly challenge run by our lovely Kerri_DFW. Kerfuffle (thank you! x) has been compiling these challenges and I have put them one of the next posts.

There is also an information post where you can get tips on what the lingo is on here as well as help on Snowballing, creating signatures and subscribing to a thread. In addition we have a post showing our monthly grand totals and a running total for how much we've paid off so far in the challenge.

One of the best posts is our very own DFBX12 Roll of Honour post. Two of our members have already achieved debtfreedom and are an inspiration to us all. This has led to a new savings challenge post so that new debt free'ers can keep focused to start saving with the support of everyone on here so they are far less likely to go back to their old bad habits.

Anyone is welcome to join this challenge and it is NEVER too late. There is also no amount of money too small or too large that will stop you from joining this challenge. We have severals members who will be on their debt journey for several years to come but they are part of this thread to pay off a fixed amount of their debt as the support on here is fantastic!

I am so immensely proud of everyone on here. I feel incredibly humbled to have started something that has helped change people's lives. BUT it is the people on here that have made this challenge a success and it would be nothing without the input, support, kindness and humour of all our members. We are from all different walks of life and we have got into debt many different ways but noone is EVER judged and it really has a family feel to it.

So, if you think you can pay off all your debts by Christmas or have a goal to pay off a certain amount then please join in!

I usually update every couple of days so please be patient waiting for your number but it's not necessary to have one to be a member, just get stuck in and start posting!!!

Good luck everyone and I hope you like PART !!!

Here are the links to Part1 and Part2 if you want to get a feel for what we are all about...

    DH's payday tomorrow

Actually...when is everyone getting paid this month? I get paid once on the 20th and again on the 21st (2nd job) but then it's a loooooooooooooooooooooong month...I'm really pleased DH gets paid on the 6th nowadays for this reason. Oh and then no council tax for 2 months which is like an extra payday I should go to 12 monthly smaller payments for CT but I love the 2 months off That's almost 200 bonus for Jan and Feb!

I would probably overpay the mortgage actually if you have your 1k fund, then if you needed some financial relief your payments would be less or you could take a payment holiday if you needed a few months money. But then I am clearly a financial dunce so don't listen to me

I think I'll get paid on the 18th this month as normal pay day is 25th of the month. I'm still on the sick, on bed rest and no driving for weeks so I've had loads of NSD although DH has made up for them!

Because we now get paid on the same day (I used to get paid last working day of the month before) His wage pays all the bills, mortgage etc. and mine covers the weekly things. It works for us but as most of the DDs go out within a week of Hubby being paid, his account always looks empty whilst I look rich (well, richer than him anyway)

I'll get paid on the 7th and 21st December, Hubby will get paid on the 14th and 28th December.

I'm really watching for the pay days this month as my credit card bill is due payable on the 10th and then we'll be getting another one before the end of December which would be due payable in January, I'm aiming to pay the January one before the end of December so I can start the new year without any spends on the credit card. So no more spends on the credit card after the 18th, (the 19th is the cut off date). Then it's going to be cash all the way, I'm sick of getting credit card bills that make me and then

No cash = no purchase, if it comes to it Christmas dinner is going to be chicken and dessert is going to be HM fruit pie as we already have them in the freezer

I think hubby gets paid on the 21st (1 week early) and I don't think mine will change so will be the 28th. Then in Jan, we'll both get paid on the 25th so I don't think it will seem too bad.

On the emergency/contingency funds - this is something I would love to do, but something that I've not been able due to the massive amount of debt we have. Hubby was quite ill a few years back, he needed an op and was in hospital for a week and was then signed off for 6 weeks. Even though he got some sick pay from his company and obviously some statutory too, I found it was the little extras that were costly - parking and TV at the hospital, food for his special diet when he came home etc. It really eat into my savings that I had - but were set aside for this kind of thing - but it annoys me that I haven't been able to build it back up, but I suppose I'd rather chuck everything I can at my debts and if need be borrow some money from family if anything like that were to happen again.

On a lighter note it's sooooo cold! I've had the heating on for an hour now and I still feel cold and it's just got really dark outside I've had to put the lights on! Definitely feeling like it's winter now.

Note to self - "I must wash my slippers!"

I've been meaning to get my brakes done for ages, but didn't have time to get round to putting it in. Well, today I was forced to as I had some car troubles this morning... It feels like the handbrake has stuck, but I will have to wait til tomorrow to find out what's up. Lets all please keep our fingers crossed that it's not going to be anything expensive!!!

If not I'm all set to go into the bank at the weekend to reduce my overdraft enough so that both bank accounts will be in the black, at least for a few minutes seconds each month!
