For me they were really good as an easy to set up, virtual Electron card. I think it cost just under 5% to load, which may seem steep but I booked 4 return flights to Spain with Ryanair for £8, Ryanair card fees at the time were £5 per person per flight, so would have been £40 for me, with Entropay it was 40p.

They do charge a fee if the card is not used for, I believe , 6 months. They have just cancelled my plastic Mastercard, that I set up for RA flights as I haven't used it for almost a year.

I would say they are very good if you are going to use the account regularly but not so good if you just want a card just "in case" you might book a flight one day.

    Same for me as Pompeyrich,
Haven't used my card for a while (not quite a year) last I looked it still had the same balance left on it. Lost my pin number but they wanted to charge £1 for new pin
Overall fairly satisfied with them :)

Quick question about this. I will be looking for cheap flights from belfast to london soon. If i sign up with entropay i can get a virtual electron and a prepaid mastercard so i will be covered for the majority of budget airlines?

have now blocked it to avoid the extra charges ........ so now only Electron.

    :(
  • It worked fine for me when I wanted to avoid BMIBaby's card fees.

However, I did think at the time that the world was going mad. I was paying excessive fees to a third party in order to avoid (greater) fees that would have been charged by BMIBaby.

Between loading the Entropay card and paying for the flights, I was worried that the entropay number would be declined by BMIBaby and I would end up having to pay BMIBaby's card fee as well.

The sooner that the OFT puts an end to this nonsense the better in my opinion.

I too am having problems getting the Entropay sterling visa electron card to work when booking with Aer Lingus. Can anybody confirm if they are accepting it or not?

Entropay are a really bad idea. I used them to book a couple of tickets and thought to put a little bit on the card for next time. 6 months later I went to book a ticket but could not logon. The accounts go dormaint after 6 months. Then if you want to use you have to reactivate. I tried and it did not work. I did not really understand it was deactivated as it was not clear. I was in a hurry so bought my flights with my normal visa. Now 12 monts later they close the account. You don't get any warnings and when they close the account THEY KEEP YOUR MONEY!

    This is their clause
"5.5If there has not been a transaction (for the avoidance of doubt a load, withdrawal or spend from one of the Card(s) on the EntroPay Account for 12 months or more, then the Service Provider may close the EntroPay Account without notifying the User at any time and terminate this Agreement in accordance with Clause 12.4. In such a scenario any Funds on the EntroPay Account will become the property of the Service Provider."

Definitely working for easyjet as at 6 April 2011...

Thanks MSE! EntroPay saved me c£3.50 on an easyjet booking today - ie paying via a new Entropay virtual Visa card (using the number/name/expiry/ccv details they show you on your "virtual card" on the online account).

(Needed one as my Post Office Travel Card Visa Electron had been unilaterally shut down by them last month = very annoying!)

Note the EntroPay system asks how much you want to load onto the card (eg the amount easyjet want from you) and then adds their % fee ON TOP of that amount to claim from your bank (ie you don't have to do any calculations making sure you'd have the right £ leftover for easyjet).

I did try to set up an a/c with them yesterday BUT got called by my bank's automated security system to query the £ loading transaction, by which time it had already been rejected. Tried again today & worked first time and within a few seconds (while the Easyjet booking was still live) the funds were there and Easyjet system accepted it straight away. (PLUS when I queried via the EntroPay site's help system they had replied by this morning saying to check details and try again = prompt service.)

So all in all well found/advised MSE!

That said: remember if easyjet's fee for a regular debit card is a single £5.50 per booking, then if the easyjet trip's fares for your group are more than £110 you won't be saving anything but will actually be charged MORE by this moneysaving, but daft musical-chairs hassle! (And remember you won't want to load the EntroPay card from a creditcard as I'm sure that would attract yet another fee from your creditcard provider.)

Confirmed working for Easyjet on 4th May 2011.

When you sign up, the website doesn't quote anywhere that it is an Electron card. In fact it refers to it as the equivalent of a "Visa Classic Debit" card - whatever that is!

However it loaded up fine, and I used it pretty much immediately to pay for a return flight costing £64.98. EasyJet would have charged a whole £8 just for using a Debit card, but EntroPay just charged £3.22.

    Well done MSE!
