Money problems - Illness - Bad Combination

Having read some of the posts recently a lot of people seem to be having problems with there health, and not saying it is becuase of there problems, but im sure debt contributes a lot to it

Having recently pretty much done a complete flip on my lifestyle (ie next to no going out/cancel sky/less beer) i have to say at times it can be hard to adjust, however i have started to bounce back thanks to combinations of things

1) Meditation

While not yet an expert after the 3 or 4 days i did this i did feel a lot calmer

There are plenty of sites you can visit on google for this (my links are at home), even if it just calms you down or makes you realise that money is not everything, just a tool that we use either positively(saving/buying essentials) or negatively (squandering on rubbish)

2) Talk to people about the problem

The more people know, the more people may be able to help.
Also if it stops them placing unreasonable demands on your money (ie demanding going to the pub or shopping), then you feel better as they wont put you in a position where you feel you are letting them down.

3) Post on here

I know its self advertising, but there are so many peoples stories on here, and the people here do relate to what you are going through, and will give you the support you need

4) Get a good nights sleep

Meditation can help you relax, normally when you worry, sleep becomes harder, certainly for me, so becoming in a frame of mind where i can safely put away my fears about money, or get to the stage where i know it will be sorted, i just have to be patient, can make the difference between a good nights kip, or another sleepless night.
Being tired constantly is not fun and is really bad for your health.

5) Try to eat healthier

Fruit is reletively inexpensive and such a good source of fuel for your body
Much better than a mars bar or bag of crisps

6) Develop a hobby

With the internet these days, just about any information is freely available, find something you may enjoy learning and do it for free on the internet

7) Try and do nights in with friends

Being skint does not make you a lepper, friends are an important emotional vent and source of support, use them, get them involved, you can both help each other through this

8) Try to enjoy your job

Sometimes my job can be mind numbing, frustrating and border on homicidal, however recently i have focused on being positive and it has made work so much better

9) Excercise (cant beleive i forgot to put this down)

Instead of wasting petrol money by driving to the shops or wherever, take a walk instead, there are many parks and places to have a calm walk, run/jog whatever, for free.
The world can be your gym, you dont need to pay rediculous membership fees

There are prob many more ways to help you through these hard times, and hopefully people will add more, the important thing is to keep your mind focused on the positive things by keeping your self busy

Easier said than done, and it takes a while but we can all do it

All the best peeps

    You forgot exercise! :j

I find that when I go for a walk that I am suddenly able to think about stuff properly. There must be some odd link between my legs and my brain!

  • I've also used all this additional free time to learn how to cook different healthy food. I've cut back in all areas of my life but eating well is very important to me. I make sure I try out 1 or 2 new ideas, recipes or ingredients each week. There are loads of good recipes on line https://www.bbc.co.uk/food is one of my favourites as you can make your own online binder of all the recipes you find.

Take a break from boozing & smoking, I've been off for almost 3 months and notice an amazing difference - I jump out of bed in the morning and don't have an ashtray mouth. This isn't meant to sound virtuous but if a chainsmoker & vodka lover like myself can do it anyone can!

It's a lot easier if you don't see giving these things up as deprivation but instead that you are giving yourself a gift of good health and vitality. I also didn't say 'this is forever' but took each day at the time, just as you do with a debt mountain as you chip away at it.
