just for the record i do not have any spoilers etc etc. my car is a fiat punto gt, and the modifications are on the interior and engine side.
but thank you for all your replies, i will keep posted how i get on.0 -
i plan on getting out of debt, and i hope to do a degree through the open university. i have very good gcse's.Jondur wrote:I wouldn't rely on making any money on your car or even getting your money back. Have a look at the number of modified cars on ebay which have had thousands spent on them - they rarely get close to this amount. Your best bet is, as you say, to take all the mods off and sell separately. Plus you'll get better fuel economy because of reduced weight + drag. Also, if you drive like most modified car owners near me, you'll save on petrol if you try changing out of second gear above 30 mph.
I don't mean to pry but have you made long term plans? ie for jobs, training, study etc - in the long term you're going to have to increase your earning a lot. Then you'll be able to afford a Type -R.
lol about the car. my car has no exterior modifications as above. i didnt mean i dont know why i use so much petrol- obvious factors that are mentioned, engine size etc, but i seem to cover so many miles in one week, but i dont live far from work!0 -
thanks!, martinKatrinaC wrote:Six possible reasons:
1) You drive a car with a big engine; my 1.1 corsa costs about 10p per mile, my sister's 1.8 Audi (I know, she earns more than me!) costs nearly double that. a 1.4 gt
2) You drive a car that has problems with fuel economy because of engine problems no!
3) You drive a car which has so many additional spoilers that it's adding drag to the car and reducing your fuel economy defiantly no
4) You drive too fast. no, infact the opposite
5) You drive like a man (Ducks and waits for the angry response!) seriously though - men tend to burn more petrol because they drive more aggressively.possibly
6) You drive too much when you could walk yes

use the car for long journeys / cruizing only and use a bicycle for gettign to work, bike should pay for itself in a week at the rate your going through fuel. your car must be about group 12 insurance ??? Id get a diesel if i was you. a good TDI will pay for itself in economy and insurance aloneIf it doesnt pay rent sell it.

Oh and make sure you have declaired all your mods or dont expect your insurance to pay out which would be a waste and a half of £1300 ......If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

you have several options
a. increase you income maybe part time job/ bar work etc
b. sell the car ...you can't afford it, Most of your problems are car related get rind of it.
c. increase your debts until all your money is repaying debt and you will have to sell car, laptop etc
life is not about wants, needs, deserves or likes, sadly its about affords ...can you afford it?EU tariff on agricultual product 12.2%

Mines a group 7, 120 (Ish) BHP 2.0 Turbo Injection gets 450 / 500 miles to the tank de restricted air intake and bike can exhaust, under dash neon kit, ultra bright blue led interior lamps.
used to have a kenwood 12 " 500 wat sub and 4 channel amp .... before i realised how annoying thoose things are on a 200 mile drive....
Thing is I can afford it because its a Diesel :-) surely it will impress your mates more if you say iv got 120 BHP and only fill up twice a month .... instead of iv got 80 BHP and never miss a petrol station. If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

Martin.. when I first posted up I got SLATED about my car.. like you I LOVE them!! Anyways.. I was told to ditch it (with I didn't and I won't!). But I have been realistic and it will mean i'll take me longer to get out of debt! Like you I bought a decent car at 19.. on finance ( I was working part time too!) it soon spiralled as I modded it, but lucky I went full time working too!!
However, I would of been debt free in Feb of last year, but then I went and bought myself a Cupra R.. doh! Anyways.. I''ve work it out I'll be debt free around July 07 but I have had to make some hooge scarifices because of the car (you can't have your cake and eat it!) So that holiday really should be a nono.. especially at the moment. I've been on Sun £9.50 holidays for the last 2 years!!! But now I'm just holding such treats off until it's all paid! And once I've done that I get to double my car payments to pay it off in half the time (see it never stops!! plus my monthly budget for petrol, car tax.. and good forbid services!!!). And once that's sorted I've gotta save 3+ years to move out which could mean I'll be 32!! (I'm only 24 now!!). So I will have this car til it dies!!! (Well until I retire and get my 25% tax free to buy me a nice porsche!)
So yeah.. as much as people on here say get rid.. don't if you don't want to be please be aware of how this could impact the REST of you life!!!! Maybe if I realised then what I know now.. thing would be alot different!!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 092
