Default Cheap rail travel?

Does anyone know of any promotions to get cheap rail tickets from Newcastle to Aberdeen return in August? Checked the trainline website - far too much!

Use Martin's Cheap Train Tickets guide but as a first off:
  • Did you check for 2 singles rather than 1 return ticket? (www.qjump.co.uk actually suggests that on it's pricing page and helpfully splits the journey for you)
  • Were you flexible with your time of day?
  • Did you try splitting your journey, e.g., Newcastle to Edinburgh and Edinburgh to Aberdeen.
  • Check the local press in Scotland if you can because First ScotRail often offer promotions (would help from Edinburgh to Aberdeen), e.g., £15 return anywhere in Scotland (in conjunction with Sainsbury's, now finished).

Should be able to do it for under £40, possibly £23 return but as suggested above book it as 2 singles rather than a return, Try HERE for a range of fares available on your chosen dates.

Errr...

I think Daveyok has probably completed his journey or given up on the idea.

The original post is dated 2004

Thanks Printedinuk for bringing it to our attention though.

Hmm... Believe it or not this is in fact the second time that I have done this in as many days (answering ANCIENT posts...)! Perhaps I should improve my observation skills?! Mind you, Aberdeen is nice (OK, I live there) so perhaps he might want to visit again?
