Has anyone used JJB Fitness Clubs before?

I'm currently looking to join a fitness club to help with my battle of the bulge and boost my self esteem.
Luckily, there are several options open to me but as a devoted MSE, I'm looking to do my research before I part with my cash!
Has anyone any experience of JJB Fitness Clubs? I have one approx. 5 minutes from my house, which opens between 6.30am and 10pm and I could make this part of my journey to and from work. However, I've just rung to get a price and they say they prefer not to give out figures over the phone and that I should come in and have a look around.
Any idea's how much this would cost and is it worth it?

when i was a member there i was paying £34 a month for the peak membership, which entitled you to use the gym whenever. but there was a off peak version as well, but id say that was only useful for people who dont work during the day.0
