I too am looking for one for a family of 5. Have you any idea of what size? I have found 1.2kg one which takes 4lts of oil, Is that big enough or too much oil?? and a 2kg of food which takes 3 lts of oil. Both about £27.
I have never had a fryer before so not really sure what to be looking for. Filters, cleaning, amount of oil ??- not sure whats a good or bad thing.
How long does the oil last for?0 -

These are the two - more expensive at argos but the details are better on that site. so which do you reckon?? or neither?? (£24 ish at other site not 27 for either)0 -
Google a Kenwood DF520, It's one of those easy clean one's. I have one which can be broken down into 4 easy to clean sections, so it can be properly washed without affecting the electric side. 1.2kg 2.5ltrs of oil HTHIf youcan lie down at night knowing in your heart that you just made someone’s day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day!!0

I think I looked ast those ones and was put off because you cannot use the lid when cooking (daft as they have a window and filter ?!?)
really couldnt do with the greese or smell

What sort of oil do I need and how long does it last?
Do I know when its gone off??
Do I just leave in sitting in the fryer when I have finished cooking till next time???
Sorry but I really have never used one of these before.0 -

I use sunflower oil because it doesnt have a taste to it ,could use veg oil though
Yes you leave it in the fryer ,if you remove any 'bits' that fall off food when it happens then the oil can last quite a while before it needs changing, maybe 10-15 uses ,less if your doing a lot of smelly stuff like fish

Make sure you get one where the inside pan removes for cleaning otherwise it's a devil to clean. I used to use vegetable lard which solidifies when it goes cold so no danger of spilling and when emptying you just heat it slightly to remove it from the sides and it comes out as a block. I was also told if you put a slice of bread in and fry it before you switch it off it cleans the fat. And they still smell with a lid and a filter in, that's why I threw mine away years ago.
