they are a big dutch bank. they bought Bearings bank after Nick Leeson ran up those "multi billion" debts. they are appropriately registered and therefore have the same insurance as any of the other big 4 banks.

as an aside its interesting how all our savings are insured. Basically if any bank goes bust we get back something like 90+ percent of the first twenty or thirty something thousand. after that we go to the back of the queue and only get more cash after all the other creditors and the recievers are paid.

of course, if a bank could pay off all its debts, it wouldn't be broke in the first place!

not that I have 20 plus thousand cash lying about (I wish!)

In practice Banks only have hold about 1.5% of their total liabilities as assets. In other words they only hold about £1.50 for each £100 they have lent out to people. It is how most modern economies create money supply.

There was an article in the times today slagging off ING for poor customer service, terrible helplines, web site crashes etc. They put it down to overwelming demand - which is what surely happens when you have the best interest rate.

Yep , i've had lousy service from them as well. I tried to open a joint account with them a while ago and hit problems right from the word go. The biggest problem being that they think my wife - Mrs Cat- does not exist. After several letters ans lots of completely unproductive phone calls (you know the ones 30 mins on hold speak to a muppet, place on hold again, call broken) i have decided to carry on using the savings account with my existing bank - Cahoot, a bank that have given me excellent service since day one.

IMG- pants, your service sucks like a hoover in a bucket of treacle

I must be the only person not to have had any problems - apart from Experian not knowing who I was, which is hardly Ing's fault. I mean, I have only lived here 22 years, renewed my passport twice, and opened numerous bank accounts, they all knew who I was.

Did take quite a while to make the initial contact with Ing, but since then no probs.

And I opened an ING account personally (they dont know who i am - it's not special treatment) and had no problems barring a slightly cumbersome system to get password and account login.

howeveer they have had customer service problems - its widely reported. In truth it is a 'luck' question

I haven't had any problems with ING, apart from taking over a week to clear my transactions.

I had problems with Experian as well earlier this year. !They had no record of me at my current address despite being on the Electoral Roll for the past 3 years. !

Iopened an account with them when they first advertised, and have not had a problem. But then I have had no need as of yet to use the customer service.

I`ve had an account from day one with no probs at all.
Just wondering if they will hold the rate when all the rest start cutting next month.
I don`t believe that ING offer mortgages in UK so maybe rate will hold or at lease not go down full .25%.

Ive recently opened an ing account and apart from waiting a few days for the money to be transferred from my current account everything seems to be going okay. Ive even telephoned them to see if Id transferred successfully and they were very helpful

I've never had a problem with ING, from opening to managing my account on-line. I'd give them 10/10 tbh.

Hope this doesn't jinx me....

I've had no problems either. I like the fact that you can time your withdrawls and payments. I don't like the interest rate at the mo though so there's only 0.01p in there.

Tip: if you don't want to apply on line, there's usually an application form for post apps in the sunday times.

david78

thanks for that tip. Have been trying to get partner to open an account with them, but he refused point blank to phone himself, and they refused to send the form on my request.

Have been with ING since March and have had no problems at all

Never had any problems with ING. If you are kept waiting ringing their 0845 number - DON'T ! Phone their 0800 number (specifically for NEW customers). It answers quickly (instantly usually!) and seems to be exactly the same as the other once you've listened to 2 announcements and pressed a couple of buttons! One big bonus with ING (for me!) is that they actually show you interest earned on the first of every month; it's nice to see your money increasing on a monthly basis. I can't find any other savings accounts (online or otherwise) which do this. Most make you wait a year before you can view your interest (yes I have a calculator but when you see it online it looks official!) Finally, ING staff tell me that they are to offer Mortgages ' in the near future ' !

Have been with ING since virtually day one and have never really had any issues (web site crashed quite a lot in the early days - but everyone has teething problems)

The thing I quite like is the ability to create other accounts within my (or rather my wife's customer number - she claims the interest gross) online. !This way we can have different accounts for different aspects. !For example the one called "SBT" is, funnily enough, the money fro SBT's. !This way I have no confusions in ensuring the money is there and easily avaialble if I need to payback the debt. ! :-)
