Default FREE Shower Smart water device

What is this all about?

Eaga, an energy efficiency provider and store, which sometimes delivers government energy saving programmes, has 100,000 free Showersmart devices, which make your shower more energy efficient, to give away to households in England, Scotland and Wales.

Plus if you’re over 70 or receive means tested benefits (eg working tax credit, income support, housing benefit etc.) you can get 4 free energy saving light bulbs.

How do I get one?

Go to the eaga website and select if you are applying for just the Showersmart or the energy light bulbs too.

Then just ‘click to apply’, ‘add to cart’, ‘checkout’ and enter your name and address.

It should be dispatched within 6 to 8 weeks. They are only available while stocks last but with 100,000 on offer this shouldn’t run out any time soon. Its likely you will receive details of further offers, so beware if you dont want that.

How does the Showersmart work?

The Showersmart is a small device that you attach to your shower that claims to make it more energy efficient.

The unit works by regulating the flow of water through your taps to an even 7.8 litres per minute, which according to the manufacturer saves a two person household £20 year in energy costs & water meter users £20/year too.

The unit is about 5cm long and fits between your tap and the end of the shower hose. It’s supposed to be really easy to fit, so you don’t need a plumber to help.

Does it fit my shower?

The Showersmart is suitable for all mains-pressure showers where hot water comes from a combi-boiler or hot water tank. This includes non electric showers and bath/shower mixer taps but does not include electric showers, showers with multiple jets or rainwater showers.

Thanks to MoneySaver CLLC for the top spot, this post has been inserted to provide full details of the offer.

Update 22 April 2009 9am... The other side....

As always there are two sides to every issue, here's the comments from a plummer later in the thread. It's up to you whether you choose one of these... (and as the notes above already say, this isnt for electric showers)

"I am DISGUSTED that Martin is recommending these. As a plumber, I can safely say these are as useless as a chocolate teapot!

People employ me to increase the pressure and flow of their showers!

Do not use these on an electric shower as you could seriously damage it. These do nothing more than bung up the the hose of your shower - in the same way dirt or scale would. Imagine your £1,000 deluxe power shower having to push all that water through a much smaller hole - do you think it's going to last very long!

You can only use this on a shower connected to your taps, but why bother, just turn the taps! (which funnily enough were invented to alter flow rate - doh!)"

Well you are sort of correct ,

It makes you use less water meaning if you are on a water meter that it would also save you money and not only be a bit more Enviromentally friendly.

So if your not on a water meter its best to still get one as its more enviromently friendly

This wont work on power showers.

There is quite a bit of useful info on the website about how you fix it on.

I've ordered mine today so lets see how long it takes to come through???
thank you sound really good

The only thing it says is:

This device works by restricting the flow of water through your shower. It comes with a free measuring bag that you can used to determine if it will work with the system you have or not.

The savings are two fold one you use less water so if you are on a water meter your water bills will reduce and secondly because you are heating less water you will see a saving on your heating bill.

Plus of course you are doing your bit for the environment.

Why not go via the official website for more information on other possible grants and benefits you may be eligible for.
