Default Playing iPod in car

Hi,
Can anyone advise how I setup my iPod for my car - not sure what I need to buy..I'm not into fancy gadgets..just something that will do the job and hopefully be as cheap as chips. I have a peugeot 307 with only a cassette player..yes, it's that old

I've just purchased a half decent refurbished laptop so now in desperate need of updating my out of date CD collection ...so any advice on how I get into the world of downloading music would be MUCH appreciated... ta

or get an old skool tape adaptor

Flights to NYC - A Quick Guide
Direct Flight = £000 - £350 = 5* | £350 - £375 = 4* | £375 - £450 = 3* | £450 - £500 = 2* | £500 - £550 = 1* | Over £550 = 0*
Over £550 for a return flight isn't money saving, this is just a guide, and is my opinion only!

I use a cassette adapter that has a thin lead with a 3.5mm jack plug. Works a treat! I think I ordered it from CPC.com

Thanks for the replies - when I did a search on Google there seems to be something you can put in the lighter socket (maybe better in case I ever buy a CD player - not restricted to the cassette adapter only). They vary in price tho - does anyone use one of these...is it car specific...or is that one of my many blonde questions ..

A better solution in terms of sound quality would be to see whether it has any aux inputs.

Aux socket, FM tuner, or cassette adapter are your choices.
If its an FM adapter I'd recommend a Kensington one.

many ways to download legally or illegally... legally you have lots to choose from itunes or play.com to name a couple or illegally you can use torrents

tracks on itunes 79p on play.com 65p christ you can even download from tescos (online)

torrents are free

The choice as they say is yours

I bought an FM transmitter from ebay for about £2 which worked fine with my old MP3 player. I recently bought an iPod and I wanted to charge it in the car as well as play it, my old gadget and a new expensive Kensington one were terrible sound quality. I don't have an Aux in on my radio even though it's a new car and it's a high spec , VW are tight on the giveaways!

My brother is in the motor trade and he is great at getting and installing sound stuff so now I have an ICE kit which is a cable from the back of the radio into the glove box, it has some other technical bits attached but I didn't get too involved in the details. It wasn't cheap but it does the job and I do spend a lot of time in the car.

Ok..being dim here - but where do I check for the aux or FM thingymajig (told you I was blonde, lol).

As for the illegal downloads - I know many do it...but how do you get caught..and if you do, what happens. Is it much safer downloading from itunes etc in terms of protecting my laptop as well? My husband used to sort all the techie stuff for me - think there's gonna be lots of posts from me

only if your a BIG downloader (we're talking 100's of albums here) of music will you get any hassle......i get my music from else where for free so don't download it

yes alot safer downloading from a known download site such as itunes etc

torrents can be dodgy unless you know where your getting it from (normally comments are left about that track/album so you know if its safe or not)

just depends if you want free or happy to pay...

Get an FM Transmitter for the car. You will also be able to use this in the house and play your iPod through your stereo.

Check out www.jamendo.com for free and legal downloads.

Cheers

I'd rather be playing Squash!

I just buy the cd and rip it to mp3, I don't trust any company that sells DRM copyrighted music (including iTune), if any of these companies decide to shut up shop then thats the end of your music collection (yahoo is a recent example), yes you can make a DRM free copy but a) it's alot more hassle than burning a CD b) the quality will be lower than the song you bought.

As to illegal downloading it's not a case of will I get caught it's just when will you get caught - all they need is your ip address / time and they can track you down, the top 5 ISP have bought into sending out warning letters, I'd expect some people to be made examples of

And let's not forget of course, that recording artists deserve to be paid for their work.

I use an iTrip which just plugs onto your iPod and plays the tunes at a radio frequency picked up by your car/home/work stereo. It's powered by the iPod battery too so no extra wires required...

As for downloads, as Marty says, artists deserve the money they get from downloads and it's only about £6/7 per album, hardly worth risking dodgy (illegal) downloads?!?

I use Itrip currently in my car and quality is ok, but am upgrading my head unit at the weekend, and will have lead fitted to the back of the unit.

Keep an eye out at your local Car boot for tunes, at mine there is a guy who sells a disc with the top 100 albums on for £5

Using the Torrent system to obtain files illegally is pure stupidity since anyone who logs onto the Torrent can see the IP addresses in the swarm, therefore leaving you very exposed to those with interest, ie the BPI.

You can buy a lead that uses the same connection as a CD changer to add a docking station in the glove box/centre armrest of your car to plug your iPod in and use with the same controls as a CD changer.

BUT, it's £150 fitted, so not a 'cheap' alternative but better sound quality and uses the normal function controls so no fiddling with the iPod whilst driving
