Wow, I love this thread. I've made a practice one and I'm glad I did, it looks lovely....(I'll try and post a piccy) but......my 4 year old plays wth it and the seams keep splitting, I think it's because I sewed it too tight. the stitches were small and the stuffing quite full....has anyone else had this and do you know how to avoid it?

I think i have given up, i still can't get the sewing machine to work it's just not hooking up with the bobbin!
whats wrong? have you been on you tube to see if you can get help
google your machine name, i used to teach machine knitting about 20 years ago and got rid of machine, decided cos dd said she was having a baby (due now) to get a second hand one and omg forgot how to use it
have you threaded it correctly?
if so hold the thread and turn the knob on right hand so the needle goes down it will pick the spool thread up , give the top thread a pull and you should see the cotton, hope this makes sense http://www.startsewing.co.uk/VideoTh...ngMachine.html

Thanks for your help The bobbin just won't hook up and as far as i can see, i have threaded it right. It was so much easier when i was 10 on my mum's antique sewing machine!!

have you put the thread in the bobbin clockwise and pulled the thread out to the wee slit on side of bobbin case?
Yep, i've done it exactly as the book said, but it just won't pick up the bobbin. Do i leave a certain amount hanging out the bobbin or none at all? If i do, do i have to put it somewhere around the bobbin casing? You can tell i know nothing about sewing machines!

Yes you leave thread hanging out of the bobbin case and when u put the bobbin case back in till it clicks then using the wheel bring down your threaded needle and it should pick up the thread hanging out, i am hopeless at explaining things

Hi Jetty forgive me if this seems a silly suggestion to you but are you sure the needle is in the correct way. i know some machines will only let you put the needle in one way but others don't. the needle has a round side and a flat side.

This is the one i have. I haven't touched the needle, it came with it already in. The bobbin was already in it too, but of course i went and opened the thing without reading the instructions!

its hard to see what bobbin case is like from picture ,
does it have a metal holder to fit the bobbin in? if so make sure its threaded to the right , you need to insert it , holding the top piece, click cotton into slot
(this is hard to explain) but you should be able to hold the bobbin thread and the case should just hang, sort of like a yo yo , if the bobbin drops you have;nt threaded it right
will carry on looking to see if i can get photos

It has a metal case but two other metal bits that fell out with it! (i believe one is the bit that hooks the upper thread from underneath to hook over the bobbin) the other holds it all in place. When i turn the needle down and up with the wheel, it doesn't look like it goes near the bobbin lol

right i think i can see what you have done, first the big thing that holds it together does its look this http://www.controlbooth.com/forums/g...36-bobbin.html
if so did you move the two levers either side when you opened up the machine to take the shuttle out?
if you can remember what you did thats going to help us sort if for you
The Following User Says Thank You to almond For This Useful Post:Show me >>
Yep, that's exactly what it looks like and yes, i removed the levers (although they are attached to the machine, they move across to hold it in)
right we are sorted , just going to check my machine and will post back how to do it , give me 5 mins
have a look at holder and see if you have a grove so you can tell top from bottom , all you need to do is slot it in and put the arms back in place, then put bobbin or shuttle back in and you should be sorted , let me know

Thanks Almond I'll have a read and let you know how i get on! Thought this would be quicker making monkey's, i'd have made one by hand by now lol
you should be fine now pm me if you need anymore help , write a list
i have been sewing for 40 years since i was a kid and agree the old machines are the best, i did the same as you when i got one of these with the shuttle case , rather have the drop in one, i used to work for jones and brother and from what i remember it gives a better stitch, again pm
if you need help , thats with the machine not the monkeys , i have made a few and they look like they are on drugs
