    Destroy their cards?

and exactly how is that going to help when someone has possibly cloned it!

Also Natwest/RBS do not accept Fall back txns anymore so these cloned cards can't be used in this country to easily, but can abroad.

Should always cover your key entry, I usually pretend to push some buttons before during and after so anyone snooping can't tell readily which buttons you pushed.

Check this BBC Video out, dated 18 July 2008

Man Admits Bank Card Fraud (using cloned cards in Morrisons and Waitrose Supermarket ATM's near Beverley).

IMHO: It should be relatively easy to back track the transactions and establish where the cloning took place. Once established, card issuers should have a duty of care to inform ALL card users who've used the location where the cloning occured that their PIN and or/card details may have been compromised.

According to the Banking Code, if you Think or Suspect someone else knows your PIN, then you are suposed to inform you card issuer immediately. (Article 12.7).

    You'd think they'd reciptrocate!

There's no need to do this. The banks will know which cards have been affected and the fraud systems will be monitoring them more closely, especially for overseas transactions. There's no need to inconvenience the thousands of cardholders who'd used the machine by cancelling their cards.
  • And they would all be posting on here asking why the bank cancelled their card...

    Here's a hypothetical situation.

Further down the line, someone who has used an ATM that has been rigged falls victim to card fraud. Their card is nicked and used with their PIN before they notice the loss or theft.

First thing a card issuer asks is, how did they know your PIN?

    Good News Fraudster Caught:

Police found 1,172 cloned bank card numbers, a card reader, 973 plastic cards, two false fronts for cash machines and eight modified “throats”.

Wonder if the Banks will contact those who've had their cards cloned and PINs compromised?

So what we are saying is if my card is cloned through lack of security systems in place by the Bank I lose my money?
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.
