Great name there Dr Gloom! I think it is fair enough to lower living standards to some degree. I decided this when I saw a PS3 or similar in the background in a house of a family living in 'poverty'!

Most of the Far Eastern countries are net importers of food. You'd be better off looking to Australia, the USA or some European countries to supply you.
Africa also looks set increasingly to be a big net exporter of food as Asian countries are buying up large areas of African farmland to grow food for themselves.0 -
