On Thursday my brother's fiancee gto a letter from a firm of soliciters saying that an ex of hers had been made br and there was a shortfall of £12000 on a mortgage that she was liable for. Now I have read on here of that happening and the person being responsible but I just wondered if there was a time limit or if there is anything she can do?
They split up 3 years ago and she left him the house, which at that time had a few grand equity.
Your help as always is much apreaciated.

Sorry but the time limit is 12 years, some mortgage co.'s it is 6 years. As she was on the mortgage then she is jointly and severaly responsible for the debt.
She will need to phone one of the debts charities and get some advice as soon as possible.
Does she have any other debts?
Can she afford to make an offer to pay it off monthly.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
Hi thanks for the quick reponse, that was what i thought, such a shame eh. I guess thats the flip side to br eh, lets you see its not just the person going br that is effected. I know her ex would not have taken the decision lightly having been through it myself, but boy did it come as a shock to them.
She has some debt but nothing they were not comfortably managing, you know just the usual car loan, credit card and a catalogue. I think she is going to make them an offer, I did say to her to contact CAB or the Money advice team at trading standards (thats who helped me along with this board
) I will let you know how she gets on.
