what to do re: ESA

  • I'd check very carefully that you would be entitled to contribution based JSA before deciding - both because you currently have a job and also in relation to your contributions.

Don't just take social security staff's word for it over the phone. There are a lot of examples on these boards where people have been given contradictory or just plain wrong info. Check with a welfare rights service before you commit to a course of action if you can.

Incidentally, you won't have got contributions credited since you lodged your ESA appeal, but that is unlikely to make much difference as it must fall mainly in this contribution year.

And best wishes for the new job next year!

    Thanks sleepless saver

I phoned my local office today and the lady working in JSA section wasn't too sure so she said she would check with someone from fresh claims and call me back. But the verdict was that as I had a job I wouldnt be able to claim JSA even though I wasn't being paid from it.

I have an appt with advice centre next week so I will double check with them.

Thats interesting about no NI credits when on appeal - didn't know that so thanks!
