jpwhittle - what i'd do to get around that problem is - get cheap plates and use a porcelain pen to draw a circle outline for the mince pie and carrot shape for the carrot and write something cute like "santa's treat goes here" etc in the shapes that way you don't have to worry about keeping foods fresh etc
Actually just had another thought - since you're already adding reindeer food maybe you don't need the carrot at all? That way you can get a smaller plate just for santa?

Hi Folks...have just posted in the Finished Baskets thread about how successful the pint glass with black socks & a cream-coloured flannel was, for a male b'day last month. I said about cracking lager & a vodka+scarlet-male-cow variety next when bham!
A hi-ball glass with tights as opposed to socks!!!!
I'm guessing the finer the denier the clearer the colour & oerhaps knee-highs are in less colour choices & obviously suitable for ..any ideas for the in my life? Think I may attempt a wine glass with claret socks too, although I'm still waiting for a rellie with one of those little craft drills to engrave some names on glasses--another idea from last crimbo that didn't come to fruition So Mary? Can I join your List of Lists Club please?
I tried the gingerbread couple of weeks ago and failed miserablly they were rock hard! what about wrapping the ball with cellophane add fancy bows and ribbons and a tag with the poem?

I varnished my gingerbread men with pva glue ( did stick on sticker saying do not eat!!)
Just got the mini gingerbread biccies from Asda - 30 for £1.50 i think - then just put the poem on card then in a self seal bag that you use for cards - look v cute
How about the metallic tissue 'paper' to wrap the ball - think they use similar for bath bombs??

I'm going to carry on trying with the box as i've already cut it out, just need to stick it, if i fail, i think i will use both your ideas (wrap in tissue paper, then cellophane!)
Cheers guys

BMF - love the idea of lager done with tights.........can't wait to see one............
Hope your lists are more successful than mine -this mornings was c**p..........our branch of tescos had nothing I really wanted (except a few snowball sweets and they were cheaper at somerfield)......no white flannels either so I'm left with a sort of creamy colour one and a darkish coffee shade..........think they'll end up as reindeer and I'll have to shelve the beer/lager till next year for birthdays/christmas
Giggle - love the beer glass you;ve done..........looks brilliant
Oh lor, all this flannel talk and I've yet to make a flannel cake for my friends birthday out of fluffy bedsocks
Everything else went wrong this morning..........the lady at the sewing/cake shop had said she'd have her little robins out for sale............no she says, be next week now.......forgot to take photos in I wanted copying and forgot to get a sticky pad/wall hanger.............didn't make a list
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

scottishchick - loving your ideas - I think I might pinch your journal ideas for my two boys (hope you dont mind!) can I ask I know its a daft question but for the base - have you just wrapped up some plain cardboard??
For the base I used some mdf (I think it's mdf, it's the wood that you get on the backs of drawer and wardrobes:confused that I nicked out of my OH's shed. I used his saw to cut it to the size and then wrapped it in paper. It was cheaper than buying baskets to hold them and I couldn't just use cardboard as the jar is quite heavy and it wouldn't have sat right. It was about £3 for a big sheet and I'm going to use the rest of it for my other hampers too.

These are just gorgeous scottishchick, you are so clever! Do you mind me asking what kind of dotty cellophane you've used? I've been looking for some, but the only pic I can see on the auction site is not clear - is it large dotty or mini dotty?
:-)

The jar was a pound, the diary 50p, the pencil case was 35p, the contents of the pencil case were 50p. Lovely present for under £2.50.
Here they are wrapped, just waiting for my ribbons to arrive.
