thanks milliemnster for your ideas yes i agree our grocery amount is large i do plan to get this down in the new year i based the amount on what i spent over the christmas period so i gess it is a little on the high side, my problem at the moment is i am one payment i arrears with my rbs and about a £1000.00 on my mortgage, the problem being i have had to cancel all my direct debits as barclays where bouncing every thing and charging me £22.00 every 5 days, we do have another bank account which has no overdraft facility or debit card so we are having our bill's paid from that, but i just do not know where to start with dealing with my credit card debts as at the moment i just can not see i will be able to met the minimum amount any help would be great.

at the moment don't worry about the rbs loan, are you saying you have £1000 arrears on your mortgage? if so this is your priority, have you suggested a payment plan to repay the arrears?, you could halve your grocery bill and offer £200 extra on this to have that cleared in 5 months.
In the meantime, there isn't a lot of surplus left over, can either of you increase your income in any way?, have a look at the up your income board for ideas and inspiration to earn a bit extra
Once the arrears are paid, you can then use that money to overpay your debts, I would also advise keeping a strict spending diary to ensure you stay within budget
good luck, all hope is not lost!!!Aug GC £63.23/£200, Total Savings £00 -

Welcome to the DFW board.
Your immediate priority is the mortgage, you need to speak to your lender and come to some arrangement over the arrears, please please do this tomorrow.
As far all the other debt, as long as it is not secured on your house, write a letter offering token payments of a £1 until you have cleared your arrears with the mortgage company.
Your priority debts/bills at this time are:
Mortgage
Council Tax
uiltity bills - water, gas, electricity
Any secured borrowing,
Everyone else, you can write too and make a token payment too. Please also call one of the debt charities, like CCCS, they will be able to offer you some excellent advice.
I wish you well on being debt free, I can really see light at the end of the tunnel on your situation. Think before you spend anything: do you need it, can I get it cheaper.

hi milliemonster
i am paying my mortgage people a instulment of £701.36 which covers the december payment that should have been paid on 15th but had to wait for OH payment to clear the bank and next month the will be taking them by DD.
Our money problems have got worse over the last couple of years due to my having being made redundant from a job i had been in for 25 years where i was earning £24,000 and being out of work for six months, i then got a job locally to where i live working for Mr S earning just under £13k a year, i have been looking for something in my old field (accounts) but no luck yet and at the moment i need to be working local as i am having lots of problems with my daughter not going to school .
I want to start 2009 on a good footing my plans are;
keep a spending diary
half my debts by next christmas
be more organized (i'm the most disoranized person)
plan my meals in advance and live of my sore cupboard/freezer which are both fit to burst.
Sorry to go on i have not yet got the hang of these boards yet but i've been amazed at some of the advice and tips given out so if any one can help i'd be very greatful
