im an insurance underwriter for a company who specialise in commercial vehicles (taxid vans and fleets and haulage) and also motorbike insurance. our company seem to be very particular that if you have motorbike ncb it cant be transferred to a car policy unless you have relevant experience driving a car, although some do let you transferr, but beware they may endorse your policy so that they are covered if you have an at fault accident so that they dont have to pay you due to your lack of car experience, but if you have been a named driver for at least 2 years on a car with no claims then ity shouldnt be a problem!!

Churchill done it for my lad recently, 1 year scooter for 1 year car but as said it cant be used on both at the same time so 1 year on a moped= £40 saving, use the year on the car £450 saving !! Direct Line do too but state you must give up the bike. You may have to call them as some/most on-line quotes wont accept 2 years NCB at 18 as most people can't drive a car at 16.
  • I wouldn't personally go for Ecar as they don't have a telephone number which for me is big NO-NO. If I need to talk to them or something goes wrong last thing I want is to be stuck waiting for emails. This does not reassure me at all!
Having Googled them I also read some negative stories.

I have no problem giving up the moped lol. I renewed a couple of months ago and couldent get a deal anyware cheaper than my first year without any NC's.

Has your son held his drivers licence for more than a year?

Yes i heard this aswell. Asda's quotes are around £50 more which id be willing to pay for a more reputable insurer.
  • Just a update to this thread, I was in the same boat... I found Admiral did NOT accept motorbike NCD (although they wasted my time telling me they could find someone who did and they didn't so don't fall for that trap), nor do Aviva. However for me direct line came through... My bike insurance was £80 with 4 years no claims but new car came in at £850 with no no claims... so switching the NCD to the car i got 550 from Direct line, then re-insured the bike for 115 with no NCD so ended up coming to 665 for both the car and bike! a good saving!
  • I'm going through this at the minute and it isn't straight forward.

i'm getting a No from just about everyone I ring including Direct Line, the AA and Direct Choice (sister of AA and even though the AA said they did).

Just phoned AXA direct, who are the holders of my current motorcycle policy, and got a 'YES' as long as i'm over 22 (I am).
  • Hiya, I'm going through all this at the moment - i am finding it SO unbelievabyl frustrating.. i have 4yrs (nrly 5) on bike NCD, if i enter 4 online i get great quotes, but for various reasons when i call up they wont accept it. the companies listed above are just terrible! churchill requoted me £900 (online quote at £500) and they would rewstart my NCD after using the initial discount!! tesco were awful, direct line were poor, the COOP only accepted 1 year of my 4 years NCD! its my first car, i am looking to buy anything from bravo, punto to corsa, all between 1.2 - 1.4. any ideas from anybody who has successfully done this?
  • I'm in the same situation but after many ridiculous quotes I found that Carole Nash will allow you to either transfer mtorcycle NCD to a car or will even let you have a policy where the bike NCD can be applied to the bike and car at the same time. All the other insurers I tried said the NCD could be used on either the bike or car so give Carole Nash a call as they will also try and match any quotes.

    Hope this helps
    Ed.
  • Just filled in all my details only to be told they cant supply an online quote, what a waste of time, they wont be getting any business from me.
  • anyone know of any companies that will do this as of now? I know co operative will if thats any help to anyone.
