I want to rebuild my Pc, I have backed up all my data.
It's a MICROSTAR pc (german make) which has an E: RECOVER partition.
This partition has a program & image to rebuild the Pc called RETTEN.EXE
I can't find how to run the recovery/rebuild process.
I have booted off the Recovery Cd, 1st screen selected option to recover, 2nd screen entered word "start" then enter.
But it does not continue, comes up with message:
"Festplatte ist fur HDCOPY scheibgeschutzt bitte erst freigeben"
I have checked this message on Altavista Babelfish translation, doesn't seem to tell me much:
"Non removable disk is fur HDCOPY scheibgeschutzt please only releases"
Any ideas how to get it going, as Recovery partition is on my hard drive in E: partition, so should be able to do it ??

Only thing is it says:
.... Turns out that all i had to do was type "fdisk /mbr" then run the restore procedure.
I just want to recover C partition, windows & applications.
I don't want to messup D & E partitions if possible.
Will FDISK affect D & E partitions ??

fdisk /mbr should not affect those partitions (the MBR is not considered to be "in" any partition).
However, you should use with caution if you have more than 4 partitions, or if the PC was previously configured to dual-boot two different operating systems.0 -
*NOTE*
most recovery partitions will put the machine back to the way it was when you first got it. Which will probably be the full disk as a single "C:" partition. Make sure you have a back up on a removable USB drive.
The restore will recreate the C: drive from the info held on the E: drive. What is held on the drive? or is it a DVD drive?Laters

When running recovery Cd it only talks about C partition data being lost.
D was basically empty, with a TOOLS folder with copies of software & drivers which is on one of Pc support Cds.
E has the RECOVER partition, with the RETTEN.EXE program RETTEN.000 image.

As long as you have a backup of 'C:' then you're good to goLaters

Looking in the TOOLS folder on D I have found RETTEN & Pc help manuals.
I don't think it tells me anything I am not already doing !!

Hi. Is somebody able to help me with the recovery cd please. I am in the Manchester area, so if anybody is in this area and can let me borrow it, I would be extremely grateful. Alternatively if somebody could do a copy and post it to me please, I will re-imburse costs.
Please help.
Many Thanks in advance.0
